New York 1800s – 1900s March 4th, 1797 - John Adams inaugurated 2nd  president and Jefferson elected as Vice President June 1800 – US Capitol moved from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. February 1801 – New York passes the Emancipation Act
New York 1800s – 1900s 1821 - New York gives Blacks the right to vote 1825 -  Erie Canal completed, major transportation move which commercially grew New York July 4th, 1826 – Jefferson dies; coincidence, several hours later John Adams also dies The 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
New York 1800s – 1900s 1827 – Slavery illegal in New York 1828 – Andrew Jackson elected President 1830 -  Underground Railroad established 1853 – Central Park constructed
New York 1800s – 1900s July 1863 – Draft / Race riots in New York April 14th, 1864 – President Lincoln shot and died the next day 1869 – Brooklyn Bridge constructed
New York 1800s – 1900s 1884 – Statue of Liberty 1931 – Empire State Building 1932 – Rockefeller Center
