This presentation is about the history of Hippo and includes the lessons learned.
Hippo started in 1999 as three university friends with a hunch that this “internet” thing would take off. We’ve grown since then, and taken part in and shaped a few IT milestones along the way.
As we turn 15, we’re proud to say we’re using cutting edge technology to help major clients reach their audiences on every channel, and keeping them ready for whatever channel comes next.

Editor's Notes
People often ask me how do you come up with a good idea? How do you start a company? When I needed to create my thesis my professor gave the following suggestions.Come up with something you like & something that matters to you. Combine them into a question for your thesis.I loved different cultures and would love to see how sharing knowledge could help the world. My questions was: how to manage knowledge within a global multinational using new technologies?During my internship at KPMG I flew to Singapore, South Africa & all over Europe to define how their new intranet could share knowledge within their multi national. When I dove into the literature, I found the knowledge management thesis from JeroenVerberg. We discussed how the internet could help sharing knowledge, but we needed more IT knowledge. So we asked Arjé Cahn.Jeroen Now being elected CEO of the year by Computable. Arje became Apache Member & has been choose as one of the five people which have the biggest impact on the CMS industry in the World. We started in Amsterdam Noord. IN an old diamant factory. We didn’t want to first raise money, but we wanted to put our money where our mouth is. we also thought that the internet would make software development more transparant. That’s why we became Open source. And as the internet is opening up the world, we want to participate in the global open source community. Apache.
Thanks for taking the time ... I don’t want to bore you with boring facts ... I brought you a fact sheet for all that stuff ... But I want to take a minute to explain to you why we at Hippo are so passionate about what we do.
At Hippo we believe in thisstatsticthat 70% of allbuyingdecision happen online before the customer actuallycontactedour company. And as we at Hippo drink ourown champagne. WE use Hippo CMS todeliveroutstanding customer experience. We useour web environments actively as a lead channel. For inbound marketing we use the combination of Hippo CMS, Pardot & salesforce. We’re a big fan of Lead2revenueManagement.In our marketing automation software we measure all cost per leads. The activity’s we undertake in the marketing team are.The goal is provide sales with better leads and practise what we preach. As we believe in the philosofy that 70% of budying decision is happening online.
Maybe we took the brighter hiring a bit to the extreme here.. We have 4 phd’s working in r&d (40%). But one very important skill you will find in our company: open and very good communicators. This is what you need when working in Open source as a development model.. Working together across the globe with other teams
