Awards
The winners of the 2014 Excellence in Holography awards have been announced at The Holo-
graphy Conference 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey on 4 December 2014. Hologram. Industries was
awarded Winner in the Innovation category with Optical Smart™ Solutions.
Smartphones make it possible to check secure optical elements in an automated and secure
way. With their computer power, image resolution and connectivity, they deliver the opportunity
to adapt digital and optical technologies to work together for higher security.
Optical Smart™ Solutions are based on the authentication of holographic images inserted in
the DOVID’s design. These images - either unique or variable through variable elements printed
on the label or the ID card - can only be authenticated with Smartphone apps, not with a naked
eye, which can be either on-or off-line.
Optical Smart™ Solutions allow users to automatically authenticate Optically Variable ele-
ments and access further information about the ID document or the product.
«France is not only bringing what people know,» said Arnaud Barthélémy, French consul general for Hong Kong and Macau, adding that
«the country tended to be known more for its food and wine than its technological innovation. Yet of France’s €4.8 billion (HK$46 billion)
of annual exports to the city, one-third comes from the industrial or tech sectors, Barthélémy said. And the volume of tech exports to the
city has doubled in the past five years».
Hologram. Industries is proud to announce the Group won the Best
Success Story Award of French companies in Hong Kong from the
Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the World
Association of Business Federations, for the project «Travel Permit

While the Governments interest in next generation identity documents and the adoption of Smart card technologies is growing faster
every day, whatever the document type NID, Healthcare, Driver’s license, Passport, Voters cards etc., securing these new generations of
ID documents is a priority.
The perimeter of security features available on the market gets bigger every day, enlarging to nano-technologies, DNA marking or pure
digital features such as NFC or RFID, the importance of strongly reliable optical devices remains drastic. Ease and speed of control, relia-
bility, and no need of equipment…are huge assets.
In this context, Hologram. Industries shows brand new ranges of high-security features to protect Governmental Identity and Fiduciary
documents against counterfeits attempts. Always looking forward added value anti-counterfeiting solutions, we now propose a brand new
range of Optically Variable Devices and Opto-digital features.
Our global expertise and experience in authentication and protection of government identification and
banknotes leads Hologram. Industries to offer a full range of laminates, holographic foils
designed to bring high security to printed elements on paper documents’ surface.
We do focus on 3 main assets: security features must be Easy to verify and
authenticate - Easy to communicate - Highly resistant to counterfeiting.
Our range of ultra-thin, secure laminates can be combined with our latest
visual security technologies, including:
• ALPHAGRAM™
, animated and kinetic diffractive images
• DID®
, our color permutation feature
• HoloID™
, personalized volume hologram
Virtual DID®
shows as well classical DID®
color permutation
effects combined with an impressive embossing effect,
creating virtual volume in the design. Virtual DID®
keeps
second level polarization properties of DID®
technology.
Indeed, Hologram. Industries offers DID®
Note technology, available in Patch, in Stripe
or combined to other optical effects in a multi-technology stripe. This technology
secures 500 and 1000 Philippine Peso Note.
We now launch a complete new range of micro and nano-structured security features
presenting brand new optical effects. For instant, a new variant of DID®
feature is now
available, even easier to authenticate and communicate, highly robust to counterfeit
attempts:

Solutions
Early 2015, Hologram. Industries launched a new DID®
variant called Twin DID®
, 90° crossed DID®
gratings inserted in the document layers or in the document window (see Fig. below).
• Designed for window polycarbonate documents, Twin DID®
secures the window with a colored
personalization of the bearer’s ghost image. Engraved into 90° crossed DID®
Layers, the resulting
portrait emerges from the colored background in a different color permutation, depending on the
angle of control. Twin DID®
is highly robust to counterfeit, the security feature being controlled on
both sides of the document. As a result, counterfeit attempts would irremediably damage Twin
DID®
optical effect.
Hologram. Industries optical technologies are perfectly adapted to the embedding process in
polycarbonate layers, more particularly DID®
, our innovative color permutation feature and HoloID®
,
our personalized volume hologram, reproducing the bearer’s picture.
DID®
technology is available as surface foil securing PVC documents or under foil version inserted
in the polycarbonate layers. In this latest case, it is traditionally used as protection of the bearer’s
picture in governmental identifications (e.g South African ID card, French, Polish, and the Netherlands Driver Licenses etc.).
Indeed, fully transparent when the document is observed from face, it does not bother the readability of the bearer’s picture and personal
data. DID®
colors appear when reflected to light, and permute when rotated 90°. Of course, ALPHAGRAM™ effect can be added as an
additional authentication security feature.
2. Plastic documents
Hologram. Industries launched in 2014 a new version of DID®
embedded in polycarbonate layers,
• Purposefully dispersed version through DID®
Full solution
(previously called InDID™), securing all the document area.
Little DID®
elements are purposefully located on the surface,
embedded in polycarbonate sheets, to protect key elements from
modification; fused in the polycarbonate layers, therein fully part
of the card body.
• DID®
Shape, securing both the bearer’s picture and personal
data, with a designed multi-elements DID®
Patch, allowing a
better graphical integration in the overall card design. It also
shows contrasted optical effects amongst DID®
pieces of which
colors permute when rotated 90°.

Solutions
Bringing another level of security to our Optical features, facilitating the control of documents with handy terminals, Hologram. Industries
adapts digital and optical technologies to work together in Opto-digital convergence developing Optical Smart™ systems. Based on the
image capture that can only be authenticated with these Smartphone apps, our solutions are coupled with pure digital security such as
encoding of 2D codes to allow full access to document information.
1.Automatic authentication of holographic foil with a Smartphone
With Optokey™ solution, to be used offline, one can authenticate ID documents holographic foil with a Smartphone, simply scanning a
specific part of the card with a Smartphone and a dedicated add-on.
Contrary to existing systems only reading 2D codes, detecting a document pattern or testing MRZ consistency, Optokey™ does authenticate
the holographic foil securing the document through in depth analysis of holographic features.
Opto-digital technologies
Optokey™
Plasmogram™ technology, November 2013’s winner of IHMA’s Best Innovation in Holography Technology Award, allows an animated
control of window and authentication in transmission and reflection of banknotes.
Launched this year as our new security feature for polymer, and hybrid paper banknotes, Plasmogram™ is a new generation of high security
zero order DOVID; this new security feature shows incredible light transmission and reflection properties and a specific movement effect.
• Indeed, in transmission, just like a colored and animated watermark, the colors of the designed image do change tilting the note.
• Reflected to light, pastel colors appear, bringing colors to metallic Plasmogram™ features. Diffractive lines of graphical designs would
enhance the brightness of the patch or Stripe.
Hologram. Industries launches new
ranges of Optical security features,
customizing their shape, enriching
their optical effects, working on
high integration in the overall
document design.

2.Smart Assistance to document authentication
Developing scalable solutions based on the controller’s profile or expected level of security - grounding our concept on
the primer authentication of Variable Optical elements to access online applications is unique. This is the reason why
Optical Smart™ solution received in December 2014, the Award of the Best Innovation in Holographic Technology from
IHMA association.
Optical Smart™ technology can also identify the bearer of the
document as well. Working online, Flashcard™ system can
authenticatethedocumentandidentifyitsbearerthroughasimple
picture of the card or passport. First, analyzing Flashcard™ code
which associates high-resolution 2D code prints and optically
active elements to provide a unique and irreproducible identifier,
second, extracting a digital key from the image of the document,
robust to lifecycle deterioration but sensitive to intentional
alterations. The two features, the identifier and the key, will be
checked against each other, thanks to a simple Smartphone app
and connection to online database.
