Baile Herculane is located in southwestern Romania along the Cernei Valley, 19 km from Orsova and 41 km from Drobeta Turnu Severin. It is the oldest spa in Romania, known for its thermal baths which were visited by important historical figures like emperors and empresses in the 19th century. The area has been used as a spa since Roman times, with archaeological remains of Roman baths, statues, infrastructure, and artifacts found dating back to the 2nd century AD. According to legend, the Greek hero Hercules stopped in the valley to bathe and rest, and six statues of him from that era have been discovered on site.
