Heracles, the son of Zeus and Alcmena, was tasked with slaying the Nemean Lion which was terrorizing the local population near its lair. Unable to pierce the lion's impenetrable golden hide with his arms, Heracles used his strength to strangle the lion with its own claws. After removing the lion's skin, Heracles emerged victorious over the beast, cementing his place as the legendary hero Hercules.
