Jane Chen developed a device called the "Thermpod" while studying at Stanford to keep low-birth-weight babies warm in hospitals in developing countries where electricity often fails. The Thermpod provides four to six hours of heat from a single 30-minute charge and looks like a miniature sleeping bag. After a successful pilot in India, Chen's company Embrace struck a global distribution deal with GE Healthcare to distribute the Thermpod more widely. Chen is now working on a hot-water-powered product that can keep newborns warm without needing electricity.
