Green sea turtles are commonly seen surfing with humans in Hawaiian waters. They follow surfers and enjoy paddling out with them. Sea turtles are symbolic in Hawaiian culture and represent long life and positive energy. While sea turtles can stay submerged for up to five hours, their typical feeding dives last only around five minutes. Their heart rate also slows to conserve oxygen while underwater. Green sea turtles eat a variety of items depending on location, such as jellyfish, seaweed, crabs, shrimp, sponges, and algae.
