A few terms you’ll see listed on the hardware schedule, defined for you.
Door Functions
Passage Latchbolt is retracted by knob/lever from either side at all times. Inside room is always free for immediate egress.
Privacy Latchbolt retracted by knob/lever from either side unless outside is locked by inside thumbturn. Turning inside knob/lever unlocks outside
knob/lever. To unlock from outside engage emergency unlock feature (button or access hole. Inside room is always free for immediate egress.
Typically used: baths or bedrooms where privacy is desired.
Entry Latchbolt retracted by knob/lever from either side unless outside is made inoperative by key outside or by turning inside thumbturn. When outside
is locked, latchbolt is retracted by key outside or by knob/lever inside. Outside knob/lever remains locked until thumbturn is returned to vertical or
unlocked by key. Auxillary latch deadlocks latchbolt when door is closed. Inside lever is always free for immediate egress.
Dummy Full dummy - full-size door knobs or handlesets that have no mechanical latch mechanism. They are flush mounted and require no mortise, or
hole, through the face of the door. Full dummy sets are used in certain decorative applications such as double doors, closet, pantry and utility
space doors. Half dummy - same as the above, without any handles on the inside face of the door.
Storage Latchbolt retracted by key outside or by knob/lever inside. Outside knob/lever is always inoperative. Auxiliary latch deadlocks latchbolt when door
is closed. Inside lever is always free for immediate egress. Single key deadlock is a variant of this: no operation inside, deadbolt by key outside.
