Laura Wallace proposes to take two panoramic photographs 24 hours apart from the tallest building in Upper Hutt to show how the landscape and sky change over a short period of time relative to human timescales. She plans to turn the panoramas into "mini worlds" in Photoshop. Laura took the photos as planned but a power outage forced her to reschedule the second photo. When she returned the next day, the changes in atmosphere and environment were greater than expected and helped fulfill her proposal. She learned that developing a narrow concept was challenging after becoming accustomed to broad briefs, and that access to private buildings usually requires agreements to not use images commercially.

2. proposal
For this photography project I will be taking two panoramas. From these
panoramas and through the use of Photoshop I will be turning them in to “mini
worlds”.
In today’s world everything moves at a very face pace, this is often criticized and
we are told that for our health that we need to slow down. I intent to show that
although us as humans have speed up our lives, the world was and still is moving
faster than we humans ever will.
I will be using the natural landscape and sky to show this change in the earth
through a panorama. This change will further be illustrated through the “mini-
worlds”. I am planning to take my two panoramas 24hrs apart to show the change
in the world in relation to a human time scale.
I will be taking these images of the tallest building in Upper Hutt as I think that this
will allow me to show the most change within the setting. As I will not have night
access to this site will be taking both of my panoramas during the day.

8. Evaluation
I am pleased with the two panoramas that I have produced. I feel that they both have fulfilled
the proposal that I wrote. They both demonstrate the fast acting nature of the earth, and that
the human world is essentially just mirroring that change in our fast paced lives. On one of
the day’s I went to do a shoot, a power cut occurred effecting the whole of Upper Hutt, this
resulted in everyone being sent home from work and meant that I was essentially kicked out,
resulting in limited images from that day’s work.
Although this happened it actually ended up working in my favor as when I returned not even
24hrs later (as stated in my brief), the atmosphere and environment had change so much that
is gave me the perfect set of images to fulfill my proposal and the brief.
One aspect of this project that stood out for me and caused problems was that although I had
a potentially strong idea, I had trouble fully developing and exploring it to its fullest. This is as
over the last year and a half I have come accustom to having very broad briefs where you can
potentially take hundreds of different routes. The sudden restriction was a good test of my
abilities and brought forward that I should not assume what to expect during a course.
I defiantly learned that although most people will allow a photographer to use their building
for taking picture of/off, most companies will only agree if it’s not for profit and/or non-
commercial. I had to agree to both of these terms to be able to use the balcony of the tallest
building in Upper Hutt.
Another thing I did learn was that as a photographer you have to put up with anything the
weather wants to throw at you.
I have also learned to quadruple check everything before handing in as even though I thought
I had handed in the right files, unfortunately I had copied across the wrong set of ‘final’ images
on hand in day. This has resulted in me handing in my official finals late.
