Hades was the god of the underworld in Greek mythology. As lord of the underworld, he controlled funeral rites and defended the right of the dead to proper burial. He had the power to turn invisible with his helm of darkness and conjure wealth from the earth. Married to Persephone, Hades ruled the underworld from his home on the island of Crete with symbols of power including his helm of invisibility and responsibilities over death.
