Hades was the god of the underworld in Greek mythology. He controlled funeral rites and defended the right of the dead to proper burial, as well as wealth from within the earth. As the son of Cronus and Rhea and husband of Persephone, Hades ruled the underworld realm from his kingdom. His symbols of power included the Helm of Darkness and his guardian Cerberus, a three-headed dog. Hades possessed the abilities to turn invisible, conjure minerals from the earth, and summon the dead to the underworld.
