Varun Mudra
The format of the articles will be the same, but we will try our best to
provide information. So, we start with our first hand-mudra called “Gyan
Mudra”.
Gyan Mudra
What is Gyan Mudra?
Gyan mudra is a hand signal that is in many cases utilized in reflection and
yoga. Gyan implies, in Sanskrit, —knowledge. The ordinary act of Gyan
Mudra expands the mental prowess of the professional, and thus it is
additionally called “Mudra of Information” in English. This mudra is polished
while pondering and doing Pranayama to get additional advantages from
yoga. The mudra is framed by putting the Thumb and Index finger, while
the other three fingers stay expanded. The mudra is said to address the
association of astuteness and information. Gyan mudra is also referred to
as Chin mudra, Cin mudra, and Gyana mudra.
Gyan mudra is said to advance fixation and memory, and to assist with
setting negative energy free from the body. It is likewise said to open up the
third eye chakra, which is related with instinct and understanding.
The history of Gyan Mudra
According to ancient texts, Gyan Mudra is the Mudra of Knowledge. It is
also known as the Mudra of Consciousness. This Mudra is said to increase
concentration and memory power. It also helps to improve communication
and understanding.
The beginnings of Gyan Mudra are dubious, yet tracing all the way back to
essentially the eighth century CE is thought. The mudra is referenced in a
few yoga texts, including the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Gheranda
Samhita. It is likewise portrayed in various figures and canvases from
middle age India.
Gyan Mudra is said to address the association of the singular self with the
general cognizance. The mudra is remembered to advance focus and
mental clearness by animating the mind and the sensory system. Helping
balance the energies of the body and the mind is additionally said.
The Gyan mudra can be performed for any time span, despite the fact that
it is normally held for a few minutes all at once. There is no particular
method for performing Gyan Mudra, and it tends to be finished sitting,
standing, or resting.
How to do Gyan Mudra
First of all, spread a carpet/mat or yoga mat on a clean and flat place.
Now sit in Sukhasan, Padmasan or Vajrasan.
We can do Gyan Mudra by standing in Tadasana or by sitting on a chair. To
get more benefits of Gyan Mudra, it should be done sitting in Sukhasan or
Padmasan.
● Keep your hands on the knees and the palm of the hands should be
facing upwards towards the sky.
● Now the forefinger (index finger) has to be bent round and touch the
tip of the thumb (thumb).
● The other three fingers have to be kept straight.
● This Gyan Mudra has to be done with both the hands.
● Close your eyes and do regular breathing.
● If you want, you can also chant Om along with it. By removing all
thoughts from the mind, the mind has to be focused only on Om.
● Doing at least 30 minutes to 45 minutes in a day gives benefits. If you
do not get so much time together, you can practice it in 3 pieces of 10
minutes each.
In this way, we can practice this mudra at any time, but it is more fruitful to
practice this mudra in the morning and in the evening.
The benefits of Gyan Mudra
There are many benefits of practicing the Gyan Mudra, including:
1. Improving Focus and Concentration
As mentioned above, the Gyan Mudra is often used during meditation and
yoga practices to help improve focus and concentration. This mudra helps
to still the mind and allows you to focus on your breath and the present
moment.
2. Reducing stress and anxiety
The Gyan Mudra is also said to be beneficial for reducing stress and
anxiety. This mudra helps to calm the mind and body, and can be used as a
tool to help you deal with stressful situations.
3. Boosting energy levels
Another benefit of the Gyan Mudra is that it can help to boost your energy
levels. This mudra helps to stimulate the root chakra, which is associated
with energy and vitality.
4. Improving memory and cognitive function
The Gyan Mudra is also said to be beneficial for improving memory and
cognitive function. This mudra helps to stimulate the brain and improve
blood circulation to the head, which can help to improve cognitive function.
5. Relieving pain
The Gyan Mudra is also said to be beneficial for relieving pain. This mudra
can help to relieve headaches, migraines, and tension headaches.
Alert for Gyan Mudra : Vayu mahabhuta increases with Gyan Mudra,
hence it is also called Vayu Vardhak Mudra (Air Booster Pose). People with
Vata Pravrutti should practice it in a limited way.
Gyan Mudra
The science behind Gyan Mudra
There is no scientific evidence to support the claim that gyan mudra has
any specific effects on the mind or body. However, some research suggests
thatmudras in general may help to reduce stress and anxiety.
One small study found that participants who practiced a mudra for eight
weeks had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol than those who did
not practice a mudra.
Another study found that participants who practiced a mudra had reduced
levels of anxiety and depression, and improved sleep quality.
While more research is needed to confirm the effects of gyan mudra, it is
generally considered to be a safe practice with no known side effects.
Precautions for Gyan Mudra
● While doing Gyan mudra, some people try to create too much
pressure or tension on the fingers of the hands, due to which the
entire attention remains on the fingers of the hands, which is not right.
● If after a while, pain starts to be felt in the fingers, due to which there
is a hindrance in the Gyan Mudra. So don't make such a mistake.
Also, do not practice Gyan Mudra immediately after a meal.
● Keep the stomach empty while doing Gyan Mudra.
● Do not eat immediately after doing Gyan Mudra.
● If you feel any kind of pain and difficulties, leave the pose the same.
● If you feel neck pain or pain in your hands while doing Gyan Mudra,
do not do the Mudra.
Final words about Gyan Mudra
There are many different Mudras or hand gestures that are used in yoga.
Each mudra has a specific purpose and can be used to help achieve
certain goals. The Gyan mudra is one of the most well known and widely
used mudras. It is often used during meditation or when seeking knowledge
and wisdom.
The Gyan mudra is made by bringing the tip of the index finger and the
thumb together. The other fingers are then extended. This mudra can be
done with both hands or just one. If using both hands, it is often done with
the left hand resting on the right. The Gyan mudra is said to represent the
union of the individual self with the universal self. It is also said to promote
concentration and aid in the development of wisdom and knowledge.
So, if you're looking to gain some knowledge or boost your concentration
during meditation, try out the Gyan mudra!
