• The specific target 6.5.1 of “Goal 6: Ensure
access to water and sanitation for all” of the
2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has
given the due recognition to IWRM which also
gives momentum to GWP’s approach to
progress toward water secure South Asia.

• GWP launched the campaign #ActOnSDG6 in 2018
during the 8th World Water Forum to speed up the
implementation of the Sustainable Development
Goal on water, SDG 6.

Water and Climate Resilience Programme
(WACREP)
Through WACREP, CWPs collaborate with
respective government agencies and strategic
allies and play a catalytic role for developing
integrated “no/low regrets” water security and
climate resilience investment plans, and to raise
awareness and build capacity among stakeholders.
WACREP is South Asia’s climate intervention under
the global programme Water and Climate
Development Programme (WACDEP).

South Asia Drought Monitoring System
(SADMS)
Countries in South Asia have claimed for a validated
system of early warning on drought risk at the Needs
Assessment Survey on drought monitoring conducted
in the region. This resulted in developing the tool
SADMS by International Water Management Institute
(IWMI) as part of Integrated Drought Management
Programme (IDMP) of World Meteorological
Organization (WMO) and GWP. The experimental
drought products are available in DMS portal.
SADMS will be customised according to national needs
and will be handed over to national institutions.

GWP Youth Programme
GWP South Asia is taking the lead in
GWP Youth Programme, visioning to
integrate the initiative at regional as well
as national level and to take concrete
steps for supporting youth-led projects
development and implementation.
Youth for Water and Climate (YWC) is a
global platform to support youth
projects engaging with water and
climate challenges. YWC is a flagship
initiative of GWP’s youth programme
and GWP launched the YWC Digital
Platform at the 8th World Water Forum.

Learning Deltas Asia Initiative (LDAI)
LDAI was launched by GWP in operational
cooperation with parties of the Delta
Coalition. The process follows a phased
approach, which started with a pilot
knowledge sharing between Bangladesh
and Myanmar.
The lessons learnt will benefit in upscaling
delta management in the Asia-Pacific
region and other Delta Coalitions and GWP
affiliated deltaic countries.

Pan Asia Water, Climate and Development
Programme (Pan Asia WACDEP)
Pan Asia WACDEP is a collaborative effort of four
Asian GWP Regional Water Partnerships - GWP
South Asia, GWP South East Asia, GWP Central Asia
and Caucasus (CACENA), and GWP China.
The programme aims to support countries to align
implementation of water and climate-related
priorities with the National Adaptation Plans
(NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions
(NDCs).
