Guantanamo Bay Prison is a maximum security prison located in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba that was established in 1898 when the U.S. took control of Cuba from Spain. It is now used to detain prisoners from Iraq and Afghanistan. Prisoners at Guantanamo Bay report being tortured through beatings, fear, humiliation and have high rates of suicide. Despite orders to close the prison from President Obama, it remains open today holding approximately 450 prisoners, costing $800,000 per prisoner per year.
