This document provides additional activities for children to do after reading Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. Some of the suggested activities include making green eggs and ham out of food, craft materials or playdough; doing a green food collage or taking pictures of green foods; developing fine motor skills by using tweezers to move items with an egg carton; and coming up with their own rhymes about foods. The activities aim to encourage exploration of color, shape, texture and other properties of food.

Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss
 Eat Green Eggs and Ham - make scrambled eggs, with cubed ham, but add some
green food coloring (or pesto – yum!) before cooking.
 Make green eggs and ham out of felt, construction paper or playdough
 At the grocery store or farmer’s market, notice or take a picture of all the green
foods you see.
 Green Food Collage. Using an old magazine, cut out green foods and glue them
to a paper plate.
 Make a list of all the words that begin with "gr."
 When you talk with your child about trying new or unusual foods, talk about
color, shape, texture, smell, sound, and taste—not about having to like or not like
the food.
 Make it rhyme! Green-eggs-and-ham rhymes with Sam-I-am. Make up your own
rhyme. Black-eyed peas or mac-n-cheese for Louise
 Empty egg carton are wonderful for sorting and counting. In the bottom of each
section, write or glue a number, 1-12. Have your preschooler count beans,
buttons, etc. and put them in the correct cup.
 Another great use for an empty egg carton that also develops small motor skills
(important for holding pencils and managing scissors), give your preschooler a
pair of tweezers. Pick up cotton balls with the tweezers and put them in the egg
cups.
