Verbs should agree with their subjects, prepositions should not end sentences, and conjunctions should not start sentences. Sentence fragments, double negatives, one-word sentences, and passive voice should be avoided. Big words should be replaced with simpler alternatives, exclamation points overused, and words used correctly regardless of others' usage. Profanity and exaggeration are poor choices, while understatement and proofreading are preferable ways to communicate ideas and catch errors.
