Under ESSA, schools are no longer confined to “core academic subjects” as the only measure of student success. Recent educational reforms did not sufficiently address the socio-emotional factors crucial in learning. States, districts, and schools now have the flexibility to provide a “well-rounded education” including activities in social emotional learning, skills essential to academic success. ESSA provides opportunities to encourage balance where the focus had become too narrow —and to do so in ways that ensure access and equity for all students. While many focus on what educators can do to ensure true equitability, there is no substitute for parents’ role as a child’s first teacher. To close the opportunity gap, districts and schools must find, develop, and deploy practical and scalable solutions to empower parents and families to be an active part in eliminating barriers. Discover how ReadyRosie offers research-based strategies to help close that gap.

Factors that Affect the Teaching and Learning Process
Contextual Factors
The efficacious teaching and learning processes are important in generating the desired academic outcomes for students. Such processes entail the transformation and transfer of knowledge from the educators to students. It requires a combination of different elements within the procedure, in which an instructor determines and establishes the learning goals and objectives, and designs teaching resources. Thereafter, teachers implement the learning strategy that they will utilize to impart intellectual content into students. However, learning is a cardinal factor that an educator musty take into account while overseeing the process of knowledge acquisition and retention. Many factors play an important role in shaping the process of teaching and learning. Contextual factors, for instance, are associated with a particular context and characteristic that is distinct to a specific group, community, society, and individual. Such factors may take the form of a child’s educational, community, as well as classroom settings.
Community, District, and School Factors
Armstrong School District is a major public learning institution that occupies a geographical area of approximately 437 square miles. Located in Pennsylvania, it forms one of the 500 public school districts in the state, and hosts teachers and students from diverse racial, ethnic, and ethnic backgrounds. As a consequence, the institution partners with families, community leaders, and teachers to improve students’’ capacity to acquire knowledge ahead of their graduation. The community refers to the urban or rural environment in which both the teachers and learners operate. These may include the teacher and students’ ethnic, racial political or social affiliations that affect learning or knowledge acquisition. Additionally, parents and community members play an integral role in ensuring the quality of education in schools. They for, example, collaborate with teachers and school administrators to develop the most effective ways of improving their students’ learning outcomes. Indeed, community involvement in schooling issues is potentially a rich area for innovation that has immense benefits that far exceeds its limitations. Considering that governments are constrained in offering quality education due to contextual issues such as remoteness, bureaucracy, corruption, and inefficient management, community factors are pivotal in bridging the gap between government initiatives and community needs. This helps to adjust the child’s familial obligations to family interests, thereby shifting towards ways of mobilizing a sense of community by strengthening trust and relationships between community members, parents, governments, as well as teachers and school leaders. 8.1 Why Working With Families Is So Important
Building supportive and collaborative relationships with families is one of the most important priorities in early childhood education. Trust between home and school is built over time, starting with the very first phone call or visit to the program. Positive relationships between program staff and family members are supported in small ways, such as the friendly tone of voice a teacher uses at pickup time, or in big ways, such as the welcoming policies described in the family handbook.
Benefits to Children
Just as infants and young children must learn how to trust others in order to learn and grow, an early childhood program must earn a family's trust before the child can fully participate in what the program has to offer. Children benefit when families and teachers communicate and work closely together, forming trusting relationships and sharing expectations and ideas (Barbour, 2007).
Strong parent-school relationships create positive outcomes for children both cognitively and emotionally (Callender & Hansen, n.d.). For example, studies of Head Start children reveal a positive correlation between parent involvement and children's academic growth in the areas of vocabulary, literacy, and mathematics (Wen, Bulotsky-Shearer, Hahs-Vaughn, & Korfmacher, 2012). Other studies indicate that parental involvement in school improves children's behavior and self-esteem, and it also decreases the chances children will be referred for special education services (Callender & Hansen, n.d.; Henrich & Blackman-Jones, 2006; Pena, 2000).
Benefits to Families
Parents and other family members, such as grandparents, also benefit from family involvement in early childhood programs. The staff members of the early childhood programs, including administrators, teachers, and caregivers, serve as role models for parents, demonstrating nurturing and learning relationships and interactions. Parents who spend time in their children's early childhood classrooms learn strategies for supporting children's learning that they can use in their own interactions with their children (Keyser, 2006).
Benefits to the Program
For the early childhood administrator, building a strong collaborative partnership with families is good for business. Whether your organization is nonprofit or for-profit, your program's success and reputation are built on the positive word of mouth generated by happy families. From marketing to fee collection, strong collaborative relationships with families will help make every part of the administrator's job easier and more productive.
Parent involvement also helps inform and enhance the work of teachers and administrators. When parents and teachers communicate frequently, teachers learn more about the traditions, values, and culture of the families, and can use this information to shape the curriculum and activities (Gonzales-Mena, 2008).
For administrators, parent involvement can sometimes help the program .

Fostering Student and Family Engagement in Learning Through Student-Led Parent Conferences
Ellen S. Amatea and Kelly L. Dolan
Educators need strategies for building effective partnerships with families, not only for the purpose of solving student problems, but also for maximizing student learning. In Chapters 8, 9, and 10, we describe strategies that educators use that focus on creating stronger connections with families to maximize student learning and development. In Chapter 8, we focus on the communication skills and practices that educators can use routinely to build a sense of connection with their students’ families. In Chapter 9, we examine the unique challenges faced by second language learners and their families and the instructional and noninstructional strategies that educators can use to build working relationships with families. In Chapter 10, we describe the use of student-led parent conferences as a powerful tool for establishing relationships with students and their families that give students a greater voice in their assessment of their learning.
CHAPTER 8 Getting Acquainted with Students’ Families

Learning Objectives
After reading this chapter, you will be able to:
■ Describe specific attitudes and communication skills needed to develop trusting relationships with students’ families.
■ Outline cultural differences in communication styles that influence family–school interaction.
■ Describe everyday routines by which you can become acquainted with students’ families and develop ongoing lines of communication.
Educators who take the time to get acquainted with parents, to listen to them, to empathize with their perspective, and to learn from them about their child and their home culture, promote the successful learning of all their students and enhance their own ability to reach and teach each of their students.
There is a growing recognition that teachers are the key agents for reaching out to par-ents/caregivers. The teacher’s attitude and practices—not the education, socioeconomic status, or marital status of the parent—have the strongest influence on whether parents become involved in their children’s schooling (Colbert, 1996; Epstein & Sheldon, 2002; Erford, 2010). Educators, who take the time to get acquainted with parents, to listen to them, to empathize with their perspective, and to learn from them about their child and their home culture promote the successful learning of all their students and enhance their own ability to reach and teach each of their students (Weiss, Caspe, & Lopez, 2006). The End of “Sit & Git” PD: Powerful, Professional Learning Communities Fueled...Public Consulting Group
In the landscape of the 21st Century, education is global in its reach and personal in its impact. In order to meet the needs of students, teachers and the lifelong learners of our current generation, educational systems will need to effectively use technology to allow the learners to access content that is relevant and useful for the questions they are trying to investigate. However, the use of technology is also going to have to provide for structured opportunities for individuals to create and grow communities of learning to add depth and texture to the application of what they learn to impact the world in which they learn, live, and work.
The Pepper Online Professional Learning Network was developed as a system to provide high-quality, personalized, professional learning opportunities to a growing community of learners. An important and critical component of Pepper and its ability to support personalized learning is the capacity in the system for the creation of professional learning communities.
Educators in Pepper have the opportunity to create a personal network of instructional coaches and peers from their school, District, or across the country. Educators use these community networks to share progress as they interact with content collections, discuss course work in portfolios and discussion boards, and share chunks of content from a particular course in small groups.
It is within these communities that the individual participants have the chance to engage in a structured discussion around the challenges and successes in their education programs. The communities can be virtual or face-to-face, but in all cases, the ability to make the learning visible and communicate their results to others who are engaged in the same program, strengthens the collective learning for all.

Build Stronger Connections with Your School Community Using Online ToolsBlackbaud
There is perhaps no greater predictor of a school’s ability to effectively support its students than the level and quality of its communications — among staff, students, administration, alumni, the community and, very importantly, families. Even in a world where communications is happening all the time and all around us (via always-on smartphones, tablets, and the like), it can be challenging for schools to develop a clear channel through which they can engage all stakeholders in a meaningful and relevant way.
Web-based platforms such as Blackbaud’s Online Campus CommunityTM are helping educational institutions create open channels of communication hooked into back-end databases, delivering purposeful, meaningful communications to students and their families.
The schools interviewed for this white paper widely and strongly laud Online Campus Community for its highly customizable interface, which enables them to tailor their messaging and promote their brand, mission and value proposition to existing families and alumni, as well as to families of prospective students. This has helped educational institutions develop and maintain strong relationships with their students’ families, and to create new opportunities and efficiencies for fundraising efforts.
No one tool can take the place of a concerted and comprehensive methodology for effectively working with an educational institution’s many stakeholders, but tools such as Online Campus Community that serve as a robust communications hub can ease, focus, and amplify schools’ efforts.

Lawrence-Lightfoot (2003) makes a poignant and powerful point that no dialogue is more important than that between te.

2. In today's digital age, communication
plays a vital role in every aspect of our
lives, including education. As the
education landscape evolves, so do
the ways educators and schools
interact with one another.
One powerful tool that has gained
prominence in recent times is utilizing
the Schools Email List to connect with
educators effectively.
3. The Significance
of the Schools
Email List
The schools email list is a treasure trove
of potential connections, with educators,
administrators, and support staff all
present on the list. It serves as a
centralized platform where all school
personnel can be reached, making it an
efficient way to disseminate information,
collaborate on projects, and discuss
important matters.
4. Fostering Communication
among Educators
Communication among educators is paramount for creating a cohesive and effective learning
environment. The school's email list can facilitate seamless communication among teachers, allowing
them to share insights, resources, and best practices. Educators can discuss teaching methodologies,
exchange innovative ideas, and seek advice from their peers. Furthermore, email can be used to
organize meetings, workshops, and professional development sessions, ensuring that all educators are
kept informed about important events and updates.
According to a study by Rose & Gallup (2019), 85% of teachers reported that using email to
communicate with their colleagues positively impacted their teaching practices. The study
highlighted how email enables educators to build strong professional relationships, fostering
collaboration and enhancing overall teaching quality.
5. Effective communication between schools and
parents is vital for student success. The school's
email list serves as a direct line of communication
between teachers and parents, enabling them to
share progress updates, discuss academic
performance, and address any concerns or
challenges. Regular updates through email can
keep parents engaged in their child's education,
encouraging them to be more involved and
supportive.
Strengthening School-
Parent Relationships
6. Enhancing
Administrative
Communication
Beyond fostering communication among educators and parents, the school's email list is a
valuable tool for administrative purposes. School administrators can efficiently share
announcements, policy updates, and important dates with the entire staff. It streamlines
communication within the institution, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and well-
informed.
7. Promoting Professional
Development
Professional development is crucial for the growth and
enhancement of educators' skills. The school's email list can
be employed to share information about workshops,
conferences, and webinars relevant to the educators' fields.
This facilitates continuous learning and empowers teachers
to stay up-to-date with the latest teaching methodologies
and advancements in their respective subjects.
8. Sharing
Educational
Resources
One of the most significant advantages of
using the school's email list is the ease of
sharing educational resources.
Research by Harper & Hayes (2017)
demonstrated that teachers who received
resource-sharing emails from their peers
reported feeling more supported and
valued in their profession.
Teachers can exchange lesson plans,
teaching materials, and research articles
with their colleagues, promoting a culture of
collaboration and resourcefulness within
the educational community.
9. In conclusion, the school's email list is a powerful tool that
can revolutionize communication within the educational
community. By utilizing email strategically, schools can
foster better collaboration among educators, strengthen
school-parent relationships, enhance administrative
communication, promote professional development, and
streamline various school activities.
However, it is essential to be mindful of challenges like
information overload and prioritize data privacy and
security. When used responsibly and efficiently, the
school's email list can play a crucial role in creating a more
connected and thriving educational ecosystem.
Conclusion
