General practitioners play a pivotal role in disseminating health-related information to the
public
They can use their waiting rooms to broadcast a broad range of health-related information and
distribute prevention materials
Waiting time can effectively be used to convey health information
Studies have reported that poster displays in hospitals, waiting rooms and emergency
departments are an effective vehicle for health education on several topics such as
 Antismoking campaigns
 Family planning
 AIDS and STD prevention
 Promotion of physical activity
 Prevention of contagious diseases
 Seasonal infections and prevention
 Importance of cleanliness and how to maintain personal and community hygiene
Waiting rooms are appropriate places for health education for public health
