This document provides a list of two Gothic literary texts - Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Bram Stoker's Dracula - and their film adaptations from the 1990s. It then outlines the components of a test on the literary works and films, which will be split evenly between analysis of passages from the texts/films and questions on their cultural and historical contexts, including author biographies.

Test Components
1. Literary and film analysis: 50%
Questions that call on the students’ ability to interpret passages from the texts and
episodes and visual details from the films. Such questions may involve recognition of
conventions and genre characteristics, allusions and references.
2. Cultural and Historical Contexts: 50%
Questions on literary, cinematic, cultural, and intellectual history, as well as
identification of key aspects of the two authors’ biographies through critical
statements or biographical information; identification of details of character, plot, or
setting of the texts and films.
