It houses the eternal Guru of Sikhs, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which is moved daily between the Golden Temple and the Sri Akal Takhat Sahib. The Golden Temple's upper floor and golden domes were covered in gold plates and features exquisite marblework during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, leader of the Sikh Empire.
