The Golden Jazz Trophy is a jazz competition that aims to promote unknown jazz bands. It is organized by Jazz en Nord and sponsored by Golden Eyes. The competition will select 4 bands through auditions to perform live on May 23, 2014, where they will be judged by a jury of music professionals led by Jean-Claude Casadesus. The top band chosen by the jury will receive €2000 and the audience choice award will get €1000. Applications are accepted online until March 1, 2014 and must include tracks and a press kit.

Rules & Regulations
The event
Initiated by Jazz en Nord and his sponsor Golden Eyes, the Golden Jazz Trophy’s
main objective is to allow the best but still unknown jazz bands to gain higher
recognition in perspective of a musical career.
Jury
The Golden Jazz Trophy 2014 jury will be line up many music professionals. After
Martial Solal in 2010, Manu Dibango in 2011, Omar Sosa in 2012 and Jacky
Terrasson in 2013, the jury will be lead by the famous conductor Jean-Claude
Casadesus. The jury’s decision will be announce on Friday evening immediately
following the contest. This decision cannot in any way be contested or
deliberated.
The Golden Jazz Trophy delivers three different awards: “Le 1er Prix du Jury”
(awarded by the jury), “Le 2nd Prix du Jury” and “Le prix du public” (awarded by
the audience).
Important dates and event description

The Call for applications starts on January 11th 2014 and ends on March 1st
2014. All applications must be sent before that date.
Each application will be auditioned by a listening comity. Four bands will be
selected to take part in the final on May 23th 2014. During this event, each
of these finalists will have a total of 30 minutes to prove themselves in
front of the Golden Jazz Trophy Jury. This includes technical setup time
meaning that each band plays for 20 minutes. Time allowed have to be
respected and the band will be penalized if it exceeds it.
The performance will include the free interpretation of a famous jazz
standard. The title imposed will be communicated tu the finalists one
month before the event on May 23th.
The event will be highly covered by general and specialized media. The
names of all 4 final bands will be made public.
2. Awards
- Le 1er Prix du Jury
The winner by Jury decision will receive a 2000€ award check.
- Le Prix du Public
The winner by audience decision will receive a 1000€ award check.
Participation criteria
The springboard is open to jazz musicians comings from all Europe countries
(including Switzerland), whose fame is not proved yet.

A file of 4 tracks at least including a personnel composition. Tracks must
recorded in direct drive and should not be edited.
A presentation folder (or press kit) with web links (website, blog…)

Obligations
All candidates must maintain availability from 2:00 Pm on May 23th until
midnight on May 23th. Candidates will be housed and fed on the evening of
Friday, May 23, 2014 and receive a lump-sum contribution to their transport
costs.
Equipment
Bands must arrive with their own instruments and gear must be take insurance
for their equipement and belongings. The backline will be supplied by the
organization, apart from special requests.
Written agreement
A written agreement will be signed between the Golden Jazz Trophy promoters
and the five finalists.
