In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

God exist
1. This is one of the best
explanations
of why God allows pain and
suffering
that I have seen...
2. A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and
his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work,
they began to have a good conversation. They
talked about so many things and various subjects.
3. When they eventually touched on the subject of God,
the barber said:
"I don't believe that God exists."
4. "Why do you say that?" asked the customer. "Well, you
just have to go out in the street to realize that God
doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so
many sick people?
Would there be abandoned
children?
5. If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain.
I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these
things."
The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond
because he didn't want to start an argument.
The barber finished his job and the customer left the
shop.
6. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street
with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He
looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and
entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber:
7. "You know what? Barbers do not exist."
"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber.
"I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist
because if they did, there would be no people with dirty
long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."
8. "Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when
people do not come to me." "Exactly!" affirmed the
customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist!
That's what happens when people do not go to Him and
don't look to Him for help. That's why there's so much
pain
and
suffering
in
the
world."
