MONUMENT OF MARTIN LUTHER IN WITTENBERG POPE FRANCIS
2016—ROME JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
Travel to Rome has an even deeper religious significance in 2016! Pope Francis has declared it a Jubilee Year of Mercy—a
great historic event in the Catholic Church linked to universal pardons and reconciliation. The Jubilee begins on the Feast of
the Immaculate Conception, December 8, 2015, with the rare opening of the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica. Throughout this
Holy Year, the Holy Doors at St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and St. Paul Outside the Walls will also be opened, giving pilgrims
the opportunity to pass through the doors and receive the sacrament of forgiveness. Various events and celebrations will occur
throughout the Jubilee, with the conclusion on November 20, 2016, the Feast of Christ the King. This momentous occasion,
the thirtieth Jubilee in the history of the Catholic Church, will be celebrated around the world, but especially in Rome. For more
information on the 2016 Jubilee and our tours featuring Rome, visit Globus.com.au.

14. WE’VE SPENT THE LAST 88 YEARS
PLANNING YOUR VACATION
14
OUR STORY BEGAN MORE THAN
EIGHT DECADES AGO
When you select a Globus vacation, you’re choosing a company that’s
not new to religious travel. With 88 years of experience, we’ve defined the
way today’s travelers experience the world. It all began on a spring day in
1928. While using his family’s rowboat to transport lumber across beautiful
Lake Lugano in Switzerland, Antonio Mantegazza became inspired to
share the stories and legends of his home with others. He soon began
transporting tourists instead…and Globus was born. Since then, we’ve
committed ourselves to continually refining our itineraries and procedures
to ensure that you get the most out of your Globus vacation.
AND THERE’S MORE
It’s a great big, wonderfully diverse world out there, so why limit yourself
to just one way of seeing it? With the Globus family of brands, our vast
collection of vacations is designed to offer you the flexibility, choice, and
pace that best fit the way you want to travel. From premium escorted
and independent packages to river cruises and escorted vacations at a
great value, we offer over 400 vacations on six continents to more than 70
countries. And with flexible departure dates, you get to choose where you
want to travel, how, and when!
Providing the best river cruise experience along the rivers of Europe,
Avalon Waterways includes the youngest fleet, the most modern
amenities, and shore excursions. Monograms offers independent travel
without the hassles because we handle all the details, leaving you to
have fun and get the most from your getaway. Student Discoveries are
an exciting alternative to traditional educational travel, 100% influenced
by educators and infused with features tailored to classroom curriculum.
Whether it’s a family reunion or group focusing on food, wine, music, or
some other special interest, Group Vacations offer an ideal solution for
groups as small as eight people! And when standard itineraries don’t quite
meet the needs of your group, we’ll create the perfect Custom Groups
package for 20 or more passengers focused on your specific interests.

DAY 1 ARRIVE IN TEL AVIV, ISRAEL. (Mon.)
Welcome to Tel Aviv. Enjoy this evening’s welcome dinner with wine, hosted
by your Tour Director. (D)
DAY 2 TEL AVIV– JAFFA–CAESAREA–MEGIDDO–MUHRAQA–
SEA OF GALILEE. (Tue.)
Start your tour of the Holy Land with a stop in Jaffa for a walk through the
beautifully restored ancient port, where medieval pilgrims started their
strenuous 2-day trek to Jerusalem. Next is Caesarea, the perfect place
to learn about the Roman and Crusader presence in the country. Visit the
ROMAN AMPHITHEATER and the impressive CRUSADER FORTRESS, and
admire Herod’s Stadium and harbor. In the afternoon, travel to the ancient
fortified city of Megiddo, regarded as one of the most important biblical sites
in Israel. This is the famous battleground where armed struggles of Assyrians,
Canaanites, Egyptians, Greeks, Israelites, Persians, Philistines, and Romans
took place. According to the New Testament, Armageddon will serve as the
gathering place for an army that will fight in the battle that causes the return
of Jesus Christ. Next, continue along the coast through Baron Edmond de
Rothschild’s vineyards and apricot groves to the slopes of the scenic Carmel
mountain range. At Muhraqa, site of Prophet Elijah’s contest of faith with the
priests of Baal, enjoy a sweeping panoramic view of the fertile Jezreel Valley.
Continue to the Sea of Galilee and arrive at your hotel in Tiberias. (B,D)
DAY 3 SEA OF GALILEE–CANA–NAZARETH–SEA OF GALILEE. (Wed.)
See an ancient fisherman’s boat, said to be from the time of Christ, before
arriving in Cana, site of the first miracle, where Jesus changed water
to wine at a wedding. Due to this, many couples renew their wedding
vows at this sacred place. On to Nazareth in Galilee, chief scene of the
ministry of Jesus Christ. Here, visit the contemporary CHURCH OF THE
ANNUNCIATION. Continue to ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH, built over a cave
known as St. Joseph’s Workshop, and pass by Mary’s Well and the Church
of the Angel Gabriel. Afternoon at leisure. (B,D)
DAY 4 SEA OF GALILEE–MOUNT OF BEATITUDES–TABGHA–
CAPERNAUM–BET SHE’AN–JERUSALEM. (Thu.)
Enjoy a 45-minute CRUISE on the Sea of Galilee. Then, visit the MOUNT
OF BEATITUDES, where Jesus delivered his Sermon on the Mount.
Next, visit the CHURCH OF THE MULTIPLICATION OF LOAVES AND
FISHES at Tabgha as well as the CHURCH OF ST. PETER’S PRIMACY,
where Jesus instructed Peter “to feed my lambs and tend my sheep.”
At this place, warm springs used to flow into the sea, attracting fish,
which is why Peter came here to earn a living. On to CAPERNAUM,
where Jesus recruited his first followers among the fishermen. Via the
ruins of Kursi, which memorialize two of Jesus’ miracles, arrive at the
Jordan River and visit a BAPTISMAL SITE. Then, visit the ancient city
of Bet She’an with its fine ROMAN and BYZANTINE RELICS. The city is
located at the foot of Mount Gilboa, where King Saul and his son died by
their own hands in battle with the Philistines. On the way to Jerusalem,
stop for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Holy City, considered one
of the oldest places in the world with a history dating back as far as

Chapel of Dominus Flevit, where Jesus wept over Jerusalem, arrive at
the GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE. Here, see the Rock of Agony, where
Jesus prayed his last prayer before his arrest. Nearby is the Cave
of the Assumption of Mary and the Cave of Betrayal. Follow the VIA
DOLOROSA, the Way of the Cross, to Golgotha, and visit the CHURCH
OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE. Erected over the site of the crucifixion, this
church is shared by six Christian communities. Walk past the Temple
Mount, from where you can see the Dome of the Rock, a splendid
mosque on the holy mount. On to the WAILING WALL, the most holy

LEGACY OF ST. PATRICK
10 DAYS
DAY 3 DUBLIN–DOWNPATRICK, NORTHERN IRELAND–BELFAST. (Wed.)
On your way to Northern Ireland, cross the River Boyne, then drive in
the lee of the Mountains of Mourne to Downpatrick. Stop at the SAINT
PATRICK CENTRE, an exciting interpretative exhibition that tells the
fascinating story of Ireland’s patron saint. Then, travel on to Belfast for
a “Living History” tour in the company of a Local Guide. See all the
famous landmarks, including the Parliament House at Stormont, City
Hall, the Albert Memorial Clock Tower, and Queens University. Finish
the day with a fascinating visit to the TITANIC EXHIBITION, where you
learn all about the construction of the largest passenger steam ship, its
maiden voyage, and the tragic night of April 14, 1912. (B,D)
DAY 4 BELFAST. GIANT’S CAUSEWAY EXCURSION. (Thu.)
After a leisurely start to the day, make your way north to the Antrim
Coast, where you visit awe-inspiring GIANT’S CAUSEWAY. Hear how
millions of years ago the earth cracked open, lava forced its way out,
and as it cooled slowly and evenly, more than 40,000 interlocking
basalt columns were formed, leading from the cliff foot into the sea.
Back in Belfast this afternoon, you have time to discover the city on
your own. (B)
DAY 5 BELFAST–ARMAGH–KNOCK, IRISH REPUBLIC–CLAREMORRIS. (Fri.)
First on the agenda is a stop in Armagh, seat of the Archbishop of both
the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of Ireland. Then, travel along
the rolling hills and reed-fringed lakes of the border counties to Knock,
where the Virgin Mary appeared to the townsfolk in 1879. Today, the
site attracts pilgrims from around the world. Visit the KNOCK SHRINE,
the CHURCH OF THE APPARITION, the BASILICA, and the FOLK
MUSEUM. You will also have time to attend Mass. (B,D)
DAY 6 CLAREMORRIS–MURRISK–KYLEMORE ABBEY–GALWAY. (Sat.)
This morning, visit the CROAGH PATRICK VISITOR CENTRE at
the foot of St. Patrick’s Holy Mountain in Murrisk. Afterwards, visit

Benedictine nuns as a precious heirloom for Ireland. Arrive in the
port city of Galway, a popular seaside destination and a buzzing
cosmopolitan center with colorful shops and a busy café and bar
culture. (B,D)
DAY 7 GALWAY. ARAN ISLANDS EXCURSION. (Sun.)
At Rossaveal, board a comfortable, modern FERRY for the 45-minute
crossing to Kilronan on Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands and

day continues with a presentation about life on Inishmore by an island
historian. After LUNCH at a local pub, board a minibus to enjoy your
driver/Local Guide’s commentary and tour of the island, ending with
a visit of clifftop DUN AENGUS, one of the most spectacular and
dramatic prehistoric stone forts in Europe. Back in Kilronan, board
your FERRY for the trip back to the mainland. You will have time
to attend mass before deciding on your dining preferences for this
evening. (B,L)
DAY 8 GALWAY–CLIFFS OF MOHER–LIMERICK. (Mon.)
A special treat this morning: at RATHBAUN FARM, watch the farmer
shear a sheep and maneuver a flock with the help of a sheep dog,
then enjoy your morning coffee with scones, fresh from the oven. Take
the scenic route across the desolate limestone plateau known as The
Burren, and stop for photos of Poulnabrone Dolmen, a portal tomb
dating back to the Neolithic Period. At the CLIFFS OF MOHER, rising
668 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, savor the breathtaking panorama
of the Clare coast. Tonight, why not join an optional medieval castle
banquet? (B)
DAY 9 LIMERICK–KILKENNY–GLENDALOUGH–DUBLIN. (Tue.)
Travel on to the pretty and vibrant county town of Kilkenny, and then to
