impurities that pose serious health risks, rise in demand for water purifiers is anticipated over the next five
years. Being highly efficient in contaminant removal, point of use water purification systems that use membrane,
media and UV based filtration, are preferred over point of entry water purification systems, as the latter are not
very successful in countries which have high levels of water contamination. Point of use water filtration systems
can either be installed under the sink or above the sink/counter-top, or mounted over the faucet.
Majority of the global demand for water purifiers emanates from Asia Pacific, as the market for water purifiers in
developed nations, such as North America and Europe, Western Europe in particular, has been nearing maturity
over the last few years. On account of low pricing and satisfactory purification rate, media based water
purifiers/filters are the most preferred water purifying systems. However, due to growing health concerns and
increasing disposable income, consumers are graduating towards adopting other purification technologies,
wherein membrane based water purifiers segment is growing the fastest. In addition, for yielding better output,
combination systems are becoming increasingly preferred, as they work by combining more than one technology
for purifying water.
