This document provides directions for sound effects to be played throughout a 7 scene play. It lists the start and end points for sound effects in each scene. The sounds include background music being played, faded out, or changed as different events occur in the scenes such as characters speaking particular lines or scenes dimming out. The sounds are meant to enhance the drama and action happening in each scene.

1. Sound Effects

Scene one, play as scene opens Scene one, fade out as Tom begins to
speak
Scene one, after Tom says “This is the social
background of the play.”
Scene one, after Tom says “I Think the rest
of the play will explain itself.”
Scene one, Play faintly after Amanda says “You
must be joking”
Scene one, have sound fade out as the
scene dims out
End of scene two, Play after Amanda says “one
think your father had plenty of-was charm.”
Scene two, have sound fade out as scene
dims out
End of scene three, as Tom collects the broken
glass and as the scene dims out
At the beginning of Scene 4
Scene Four, immediately after scene dims out
after Tom says But who in hell ever got himself
out of one without removing one nail?”
Let it play until completion
Scene Four, play SOFTLY after Amanda shuts
the door after saying “the landlord ought to be
sued for every cent he possesses!
Scene Four, fade out as Amanda pushes
Tom to sit down

escape steps and one of the rings the doorbell

Scene 6, after Amanda says “What is that? Rain?” Fades out as the scene dims out
Scene 7, after Laura says, “It’s nearly thirteen.” End when Jim changes the background
music to a dance tune.
