reach the stellar success that he enjoys today has not always been easy, nor has it been clearly
defined or delineated. Just like all great men and women, Pugliese has striven his entire life to
find out what really matters most to him. He is married and has children, and perhaps family is
the obvious answer to the question regarding Pugliese’s top life priorities. But when he was
young, it was the exciting and challenging world of athletics and sports that most attracted him
and inspired him. He was gifted by nature with an exceptionally athletically fit and powerful
physique.

3. This fact, coupled with his strong determination to achieve his best in whatever endeavor
happened to present itself to him, combined to spell out fairly clearly, or so it seemed, that
sports, and even professional sports, would be the best path for him to pursue. He was on a
variety of rugby and wrestling teams. He eventually even became interested in body building. To
Pugliese, developing the finest, most fit and toned up physique was an attractive feat and one
that he excelled in, winning several big-time competitions. However, everything seemed to
change, almost overnight. When he was 35 years old, Gino Pugliese experienced a dramatic
setback that would serve as a catalyst to change his life forever. During an intense and highly
competitive rugby match Pugliese suffered a severe injury that would land him in the hospital for
a long and arduous stay.

4. His doctors all confirmed to him that he would never again be able to engage in competitive
sports, ever. This came both as a shock to him, and as a sense of a crushing defeat. He had
always been active, and couldn’t imagine life without physical activity and sports. He became
exceedingly sedentary, overate, and felt depressed much of the time. As a consequence, he put
on weight, and eventually weighed nearly 400 pounds. To Pugliese’s credit, at this seeming
point of no return, he transformed his life, went back to college to earn an MS and embarked on
his new career.
