I am an organized, deadline oriented, self-motivated newspaper
reporter/photographer with 16 years of full-time experience at the
Hamilton Herald-News. Professionalism is a priority. Covering stories in a
fair, impartial and concise manner that captures the reader’s attention is
of utmost importance. I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life, including public officials,
professionals, farmers, people who have “made it” to the top, and those who are climbing the
ladder. Sometimes it is the “small” stories that make big news. Besides covering
governmental meetings and hard news, I enjoy getting being a part of my life-long
community. I take pride in getting to know the people I interview and making sure that they
realize I care about them and their stories. In a small town, reporting is not just about news,
it’s about relationships.

CASA for the CTA Casework Supervisor
VO L U N T E ER I N F O RM AT I O N
I have served as Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA – or Guardian Ad Litem) for 5
1/2 years, handling 20 cases involving 21 children.
As a CASA I must establish a relationship with the child to better understand the child’s
needs and desires;
Develop relationships with the children’s parents/guardians and foster parents;
Provide a positive role model for the child while teaching him/her self-confidence and trust;
Support the child throughout court proceedings;
Learn about the court system and explain it to the child;
Attend court hearings, with or without the child – testify in court hearings;
Review available records regarding the child’s family history, school behavior, medical or
mental health history, etc.
Identify and explore potential resources that will facilitate family preservation, early family
reunification, or alternative permanency planning;
Interview all parties involved with the child regarding the child’s circumstances and needs, as
determined by the CASA plan developed with the CASA Advocate Supervisor;
Communicate the child’s needs to the court in written reports and recommendation;
Ensure that the court-approved plans for the child are being implemented;
Familiarize myself with the caseworker’s case plan and maintain regular contact;
Investigate the interest of the child in judicial or administrative proceedings outside of
juvenile court;
Communicate and coordinate efforts with the child’s social worker, probation officer, and
attorney;
Make contact with child’s doctors, psychiatrist, teachers, caregivers and other professionals
involved in the child’s life.
