WEEK 2 TED EVALUATION SPEECH
          Brandon Mitchell
GILES DULEY

Photographer

Fashion and Style

Switched to Documentary to tell the stories of people.
In 2011, Giles was in a bad accident in Afghanistan

He lost his left arm and both of his legs in the accident.

After the accident he said“I thought, “Right hand? Eyes?I can
work.”
Duley switched from fashion to people.

He wanted to tell the story of people.

In his Ted speech he talked about three different stories.
AUTISM CHILD

Duley started by talking about a young boy he spent time with.

The child was Autistic.

The boy would beat himself up, but wouldn’t tell anyone what he
did.

Duley wanted to help the boy, so he started taking pictures.
AUTISM CHILD

Duley then told the story of the young boy by these pictures, and
the boy was able to get the help he needed.
AFRICAN TRIBE

Duley said that he then went to a African tribe to take pictures
there.

One of the people who wanted their picture taken was this lady.
The villagers wanted Duley to help, but he tried telling them he
wasn’t a doctor.

Duley instead took these pictures and made them public so
people know what is going on.
UKRAINE GANG

Duley then went to Ukraine

While in Ukraine he ran into this group of kids.
The people in the city they were in all thought the kids were
trouble.

Duley however saw a different side of the kids.

The night this picture was taken was the last picture taken of
one of these boys.

The next day Duley went to go find the boys only to find out
one of them died overnight.
AFGHANISTAN

As said in the introduction, Duley took a trip to Afghanistan to
take pictures of the soldiers.

While in Afghanistan Duley stepped on an IED (Improvised
Explosive Device.)

The fact that Duley survived the accident is a miracle according
to the doctors.
This photo is of the Soldiers tending to Duley
DULEY’S CONCLUSION

Duley ended his speech by saying we all can do more to help out
others.

We all have different gifts that we can use to help others.
WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS STORY?

My major is sports marketing and media. One of the things I
want to do is tell stories of athletes who do great things that we
don’t hear about.
CONCLUSION

Duley and I both have the goal of letting other people’s stories to
be told because of our work.
