The Gila monster is a venomous lizard native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, measuring up to 60 cm long. It has a black and yellow skin that appears grainy, and eats small birds, eggs, mammals, and insects a few times per year, storing food in its tail. While generally harmless unless threatened, the Gila monster's venom can be dangerous or even deadly to humans if not treated promptly.
