Mindfulness exercises are also included to help disrupt automatic reactions and cultivate presence. The importance of incarnational spirituality and detaching from perceived dangers is discussed.
The document outlines the themes and sessions of the St. Blaise Retreat at Malvern Retreat House. The themes include exploring who Jesus is, vocations and the Great Commission, dealing with stress, and prayer. Sessions discuss Jesus' questioning of the disciples' understanding of him, the call to discipleship and mature faith, overcoming stress through Christ, and Jesus reinstating Peter through prayer. The retreat aims to help participants reflect on their relationship with God and path in life.
The document outlines the schedule and themes for a 40 Hours Devotion being held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Doylestown, Pennsylvania from November 10-12, 2019. The theme is "Jesus Christ - The Way, The Truth and The Life." Each day focuses on one aspect: Day 1 looks at Jesus as the Way, Day 2 examines Jesus as the Truth, and Day 3 considers Jesus as the Life. The schedule includes times for prayer, reflection, and discussion on topics like the current state of the Catholic Church in America and living according to God's will.
Charisms and Discipleship (Mother of Divine Grace)pennpadre
This document outlines a parish discipleship pathway to help parishioners grow in their faith from initial stages of being pre-trust or trusting to becoming a seeking disciple or apostle. It includes several programs and resources mapped out in a timeline to guide parishioners in their faith journey, including Alpha, Walking with Purpose, That Man is You, Symbolon/RCIA, Formed, Called and Gifted sessions, and becoming a parish missionary. The goal is to help more parishioners deepen their connection to God and become actively seeking and sharing their faith with others.
This document provides information for an ALPHA session being held at St. Monica Parish in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. The session will include a meal, introductions, presentations on various topics related to Christianity, and a discussion period. Some of the topics to be covered include prayer, the Holy Spirit, resisting evil, and telling others about faith. The session aims to provide an encounter with the Christian faith through discussion of its key beliefs and principles.
NALC Conference - Promoting Encounters and Accompanying People on the Journeyionpennpadre
This document discusses ways to promote ongoing conversion and help parishioners encounter Christ. It begins with an opening prayer asking God for guidance. It then discusses analyzing who is and isn't attending mass to understand how to reach more people. It emphasizes the importance of a personal relationship with Christ over inherited faith. The rest of the document discusses examples of how one parish, St. Monica, has tried different initiatives like Bible studies, men's and women's groups, and intentional discipleship pathways to help parishioners grow closer to God through liturgy, service, and scripture. It analyzes the parish's metrics over time to evaluate what efforts seem to be working to increase participation and faith.
NALC Conference. Talk #1: Invite and support active membershippennpadre
This document discusses steps a parish can take to promote and enable ongoing conversion and active membership. It recommends forming a dedicated prayer team and conducting facilities assessments. It also suggests understanding the "spiritual thresholds" of parishioners, from pre-trust to apostle, and ensuring resources address evangelization, sacramental preparation, catechesis and service. A discernment team of invested disciples could help discern the parish's culture, charism and gaps to guide its growth. Recommended programs and resources are also listed.
St. Monica Director of Communications and Social Media: pennpadre
This role oversees all communications and social media for a Catholic parish. Responsibilities include managing a team that creates content for print, web, video and social media ensuring it aligns with the parish's mission and brand. Key duties are serving as brand manager, developing an inbound marketing plan to engage more people in the parish's activities, and providing communications support and training. The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, at least 3 years of team management experience, is an excellent writer and creative thinker proficient in various software, and has a strong understanding of Catholic theology and communications.
This document summarizes a presentation given at a church on managing stress and anxiety related to parenting responsibilities. It identifies common causes of stress like time demands from children's activities, marriage, work, and finances. It provides biblical passages about not being anxious, casting worries upon God, and finding peace and hope. The closing exercise guides reflecting on positives, negatives, and hurts in one's life and having a conversation with God about it through thanksgiving and requests.
This document outlines steps for a parish to promote active membership. It includes conducting facility walk-throughs and assessing spiritual thresholds to understand the parish demographic. Resources are suggested to help with evangelization, catechesis, and forming disciples at different stages of faith. Metrics on sacraments, attendance, families, finances, and initiatives show activity but lagging archdiocesan metrics, suggesting more work is needed to engage parishioners.
The St. Monica leadership team is tracking several projects including liturgy, contemporary music, outreach, all abilities, scripture-based fellowship programs, and facility renovations. For the contemporary music initiative, the team has defined qualifications for a director and is working to recruit musicians, define equipment needs, and plan for a November launch. They are also visiting other parishes to learn from existing contemporary music programs. The all abilities project is developing marketing materials and establishing a foundation to pursue a pilot program. Outreach efforts include collecting supplies for local organizations and planning community service activities.
Diocese of Lafayette. Presentation 2: How Do We Promote and Enable Ongoing Co...pennpadre
This document summarizes discussions from a parish commission on helping parishioners encounter Christ and grow as disciples. They considered topics like the changing religious landscape, models of discipleship, and evaluating their efforts. The commission recommended the parish focus on helping people encounter Jesus through scripture study groups, worship, and service. They outlined a "discipleship pathway" with programs at different commitment levels. While some metrics like attendance, collections and programs were up significantly, the parish aims to further develop intentional discipleship and form missionaries through additional initiatives.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

Germany / Austria Pilgrimage: Trip Details and Registration
1. A Spiritual & Cultural Journey to
Germany & Austria
On the Occasion of Father Zlock’s 25th Anniversary of Ordination
12-Days: September 8 to 19, 2019
Under the Spiritual Direction of Rev. Charles Zlock
Saint Monica’s Parish in Berwyn, Pennsylvania
Group Coordinator: Ms. Peg Alzamora
2. Our Daily Itinerary
An Invitation To Join Us
Dear Friends,
Next year will be the 25th anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood. To celebrate this occasion, I am hosting
a pilgrimage to Germany and Austria – places where I worked and lived for five years earlier in my life.
I would like to invite YOU to join me on this spiritual and cultural experience from September 8 – 19, 2019.
We have planned a unique combination of religious sites, local culture and the spectacular scenery of Germany &
Austria. We will enjoy warm friends, good food - and probably something decent to drink as well. I believe this trip
will inspire and refresh you.
We start out near Heidelberg, where I worked during my first sojourn to Germany almost 40 years ago. We will stop
over in the romantic city of Rothenberg on the way to Bavaria. We will visit the alpine village Oberammergau, the
home of the famous “Passion Play.” We will tour several religious sites such as the Monastery in Ettal, the “Silent
Night Chapel,” the Black Madonna of Altoeting and enjoy the brewery in the Andechs Monastery.
I will celebrate Mass for everyone each day. I look forward to sharing great meals and fun with you as well. We have limited capacity on the
bus, and our space is limited, so we encourage you to register quickly as we expect this trip to fill up soon!
Consider joining me on a blessed journey of faith and fellowship. Further details are forthcoming.
Fr. Charles
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, DAY 1: DEPART THE USA: We depart
the parish by motor coach en route to the Newark Airport
where we board our scheduled non-stop flight to Frankfurt, with
complimentary meals and beverages served on board.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, DAY 2: ARRIVE FRANKFURT: VISIT THE
CITY / HEIDELBERG: We arrive in Frankfurt in the morning, and
meet our Catholic Travel Centre representative outside luggage
claim. We transfer to our motor coach to visit the city. Frankfurt
am Main started on a hill at a ford in the Main River. The name
Frankfurt first appears in writing in the year 793, but it seems to
have already been a considerable city. Here we see the botanical
gardens, the largest in Germany, St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral,
built of red sandstone in Gothic style between the 13th and 15th
centuries, and of course, Frankfurt’s Old Town (Altstadt), with the
Römerberg, an irregularly shaped square with the Justice Fountain
(Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen) at its center. We have time for lunch on
our own before continuing to Heidelberg for Mass at a local church,
followed by dinner and the evening. (B, D)
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, DAY 3: HEIDELBERG: NECKAR RIVER
CRUISE & CITY TOUR: This morning, after breakfast, we board our
boat for a delightful, relaxing cruise on the Neckar River. Later, we
have some time for lunch on our own, before enjoying a walking
tour along the Haupstrasse including the Market Place, Church of
the Holy Spirit, Students Jail, and Heidelberg Castle. At the Castle
we see the famous “Grosses Fass” (large wine barrel). Mass is
celebrated at a local church. We return to our hotel for dinner and
the evening. (B, D)
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, DAY 4: HEIDELBERG / ROTHENBURG
/ GARMISH PARTENKIRCHEN: After breakfast, check-out, we travel
first to the charming town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a town
straight from the Middle Ages. Upon arrival, we celebrate Mass at
the St. John’s Church, originally built on the site of the Headquarters
of the Order of St. John around 1200. Preserved with dedication
and skill, the town has withstood the ravages of time and war.
Its city walls, lovely wood-framed houses, town square, and St.
James Cathedral with the famous “Holy Blood Altar” by Tilman
Riemenschneider are unforgettable. We have some time at leisure
for lunch and exploring before we continue to our hotel in Garmish-
Partenkirchen,atownbeautifullynestledinthemountainsbetween
Germany and Austria. Dinner tonight is at our hotel. (B, D)
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, DAY 5: GARMISH: EXCURSION TO
OBERAMMERGAU, WEISKIRCHE & NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE:
This morning, after breakfast, we stop en route to visit the quaint
alpine village of Oberammergau and home of the famous Passion
Play performed every ten years since the 1634. We tour the
Oberammergau Theater, which will house the Oberammergau
Passion Play in 2020, and learn about the history of the town.
We continue to Weis and celebrate Mass at ‘Wieskirche’ (Church
in the Meadow), also called Church of the Scourged Redeemer,
considered to be the most beautiful rococo church in Europe. Later,
after lunch on our own, our motor coach takes us amidst green
meadows and snowcapped mountains to Neuschwanstein, one
of the fairytale castles built by Mad King Ludwig II. With its turrets
and mock-medievalism, and interior styles ranging from Byzantine
through Romanesque to Gothic, the castle is a real fairy-tale fantasy
come true. After the visit, we return to our hotel. Dinner is served
at a local restaurant. (B, D)
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, DAY 6: GARMISH: ZUGSPITZE CABLE CAR
/ KLOSTER ETTAL / SALZBURG: After breakfast and check-out, we
take a cable car ride to the peak of Germany’s highest mountain,
Zugspitze (9,718 ft.), where we have time to enjoy a coffee or a
snack on our own with the spectacular view of four countries and
a glacier! We continue to Ettal, site of the beautiful Benedictine
Abbey founded in 1313. After some time for lunch on our own,
we celebrate Mass at the monastery, which was founded in the
14th century. Today, Kloster Ettal remains a working Benedictine
monastery. The boarding school specializes in humanities and
languages. With a community of more than 50 monks, the
monastery supports itself with delicious beer from its brewery and
its famous liqueur. We continue to our hotel in Salzburg, Austria for
dinner and the evening. (B, D)
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, DAY 7: SALZBURG: VISIT OF THE CITY
& LEISURE: Today, after breakfast, we begin our day with a visit
to the Shrine of Our Lady of Maria Plain. The 17th century hilltop
shrine overlooking Salzburg has a painting of the Virgin Mary that
miraculously survived a bakery fire. The shrine became a Minor
Basilica in 1952 and was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1983. Here
we celebrate Mass. Following Mass we enjoy a walking tour of this
charmingcityofmusicandMozart.DuringthetourweseeSalzburg’s
sights along the Getreidegasse, such as the city’s pedestrian street,
lined with authentic 17th and 18th century buildings, and pass by
the house where Mozart was born. We explore also the religious
heritage of this town, including Nonnberg, believed to be the oldest
nunnery in existence, founded by St. Rupert in the 8th century, in
addition to the Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter, also founded by St.
Rupert. Dinner tonight is at St. Peter’s Restaurant, accompanied by
the music of Mozart. (B, D)
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, DAY 8: SALZBURG: EXCURSION TO

stop at The Silent Night Chapel located in the town of Oberndorf.
Completed in 1937, the Chapel is a monument to the Christmas
carol Silent Night and stands in place of the former St. Nicholas
Church, where on the 24th of December 1818, the Christmas carol
was performed for the first time. The Memorial Chapel was the
visible symbol of the song Silent Night. On the 24th of December,
every year, a solemn memorial mass is held at the church, and the
carol is sung in many languages and is seen as a unifying experience.
We continue on to Altötting. The beloved Madonna, 25-centimeter
tall (less than 10 inches) displays a graceful face that over time has
becomeblackfromallthesmokeofthevotivecandlesplacedbefore
her. She was placed in a glass case in the 17th century. The altar is
surrounded with tablets of grateful expressions and gifts donated
by pilgrims throughout the centuries. The Gnadenkapelle, or Chapel
of Mercy, was originally a Roman temple made out of volcanic
rock. Pope John Paul II visited Altötting in 1980 and in 2006 Pope
Benedictvisitedthesamecitytoprayforpeace.Peasantsandnobles
alike have relied on Our Lady of Altötting to protect them during
pestilence and war. When the Black Plague broke out in 1633, tens
of thousands of pilgrims attended services at the shrine. Discarded
crutches and wheelchairs in the arcade surrounding the chapel are
testimony to the many miraculous healings that have occurred at
this shrine. We have time to visit the shrine, where there’s always a
line to get in, followed by Mass at the nearby Church of St. Konrad,
named after a local saint. We return to Salzburg. Dinner this evening
is on our own to explore the local restaurants. (B)
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16: DAY 9: SALZBURG: EXCURSION TO
HOHENWERFEN CASTLE & SOUND OF MUSIC VISIT: This morning
after breakfast we travel first to visit the stunning medieval rock
castle of Hohenwerfen, built in the eleventh century. It is built on
a two thousand foot precipice and was the setting for the motion
picture “Where Eagles Dare.” After some time for lunch on own, we
visit Mondsee, where, in the movie The Sound of Music, Maria and
the Baron were married in the now Minor Basilica of St. Michael,
where we celebrate Mass. We return to Salzburg, where dinner
tonight is served at our hotel. (B, D)
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, DAY 10: SALZBURG / ANDECHS /
MUNICH: This morning, after breakfast and check-out, we board
our motor coach to travel to the Andechs Monastery, where sacred
relics gathered from Rome and the Holy Land were transferred in
the year 955. Then, in the 12th century, with the addition of three
consecrated Hosts, Andechs became a place of pilgrimage known
as “Holy Hill.” The monastery was promoted to an Abbey in 1458.
Today the activities of Andechs Abbey still support the work of the
Munich monks of St. Boniface, in educational fields and care for the
homeless. Here we celebrate Mass, then taste the local brew while
visiting the monastery brewery. We continue to our hotel in Munich
for dinner and the evening. (B, D)
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, DAY 11: MUNICH: VISIT OF THE
CITY & LEISURE: This morning, we make our way just outside of
Munich to the stunning Nymphenburg Palace, summer home of
the Bavarian monarchs. We take time to admire its frescoed walls,
rococo gilding, gorgeously manicured lawns, canals and magnificent
gardens. After our visit, we return to Munich for a city tour of
Bavaria’s capital, including the Baroque church of Asamkirche and
the historic glockenspiel on the Marienplatz. We celebrate Mass at
the revered twin-towered Fraunkirche (Church), the most familiar
landmark of old Munich. This afternoon is at our leisure. We gather
tonight for a special farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B, D)
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, DAY 12: RETURN TO THE USA: This
morning, after breakfast and check out, we have free time until we
transfer to Munich airport for our return flight to Newark, where
our motor coach awaits us to return us to our parish in Berwyn. (B)

confirmed space is subject to penalties and/or fees levied by the airline at the time of
ticketing. Airfare, airline carrier, and airline schedules are subject to change without
notice. Airline fees and fuel or security fee surcharges (if any) occurring after the date
of brochure printing are the responsibility of the Traveler.
AIRLINE DEVIATIONS, SEATING, UPGRADES & FREQUENT FLYER BOOKINGS:
The following are not possible within the terms of CTC’s group airline contract: specif-
ic seat assignments, seat upgrades, services deviating from the group itinerary, and
booking using frequent flyer points. If these items are important to you, CTC advises
you to register for the “Land Only” package. Additionally, CTC does not record Traveler
frequent flyer numbers, TSA numbers, or Global Entry numbers. Passengers must sub-
mit this information on their own at the airport at the time of check in.
LAND ONLY PASSENGERS: Travelers arranging their own flights must meet the
group at the group’s arrival airport or at the first hotel of the itinerary.
BAGGAGE & PORTERAGE: Baggage is at owner’s risk. Traveler should confirm the
checked and carry-on baggage specifications with the air carrier specified in Final Trav-
el Documents. Any checked baggage fees, if applicable, are not included in the tour
price. Checked baggage is limited to one bag per person (subject to change by airline)
and must adhere to airline specifications. Porterage for one piece of luggage is included
at hotels; no porterage at airports.
NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE: Passports, visas, meals and beverages not men-
tioned, extras beyond standard menu, baggage fees, telephone calls, laundry, and oth-
er items not explicitly stated as included.
PHOTOGRAPHY: CTC may take photographs or film of its trips and trip Travelers,
and Traveler grants CTC express permission to do so and for CTC to use such for
promotional or commercial use without payment of any fee or royalties. CTC has the
unrestricted right to use and/or copyright and/or publish aforementioned photographs
or film in any media for advertising or for any other lawful purpose. Traveler waives any
ownership or publication right in connection with photographs or film taken by CTC.
PARTICIPATION: CTC reserves the right to decline to accept or retain any Traveler on
any of its tours if, in its sole discretion, it deems accepting or retaining any such Traveler
as being detrimental to the tour.
UNUSED SERVICES: There is no right to a refund for any unused services, including
airline tickets.
LIABILITY DISCLAIMER: CTC hereby expressly disclaims any and all liability for any
personal injury, property damage, loss of baggage, accident, delay or irregularity, any
claim for special or consequential damages, or any other loss that may be occasioned
by the acts and/or omissions, whether negligent, wrongful, or intentional of any air car-
rier, hotel/motel, or other lodging operator, railroad operator, bus operator, public trans-
portation, sea carrier, local sightseeing company, tour operator, tour leader, or spiritual
director, any employees thereof, or for any other entity or individual not under the direct
supervision and control of CTC when engaged in conveying the passenger or in carry-
ing out the arrangements of the tour, or otherwise in connection therewith. CTC further
disclaims any liability for any damages, losses, or expenses incurred, or inconvenience
caused, due to delay or changes in schedules, defaults, over-booking of hotels or air-
lines, sickness, weather, strikes, quarantines, acts of terrorism, construction, war, force
majeure, or other such events that are beyond CTC’s control. CTC likewise disclaims
any liability for statements, actions, or inactions of any intermediary agents such as
group administrators, spiritual directors, tour leaders, travel agents, or any other inter-
mediary involved with the selling, promotion, or operation of CTC’s tours. Furthermore,
to the fullest extent permitted by law, CTC disclaims any liability for any damages or
injuries, or other losses whatsoever, sustained or incurred as a result of the negligence
of CTC. Group administrators, spiritual leaders, and tour leaders likewise expressly
disclaim any liability for the acts and/or omissions of any of the above entities and/or
individuals not directly under their supervision or control. Please be advised that the lia-
bility of carriers as well as providers of hotel and lodging accommodations is limited by
law and Travelers may thus wish to consider purchasing the Travel Protection plan and/
or additional insurance to protect themselves against any losses or injuries suffered
as a result of their acts and/or omissions. In no event shall CTC’s liability exceed the
amounts paid by the Traveler for participation in the tour, and subject to the provisions
and cancellation fees as set forth in this brochure. In the event that the tour leader and/
or spiritual director named in a brochure or itinerary does not travel with the group and
a substitute is not named therein, CTC reserves the right to make substitutions of its
choosing for such person(s). CTC is not responsible for any misquotes contained in
this brochure or other accompanying documentations and the contents therein may be
changed at any time without notice and at CTC’s sole discretion.
CANCELLATION BEYOND CTC’s CONTROL: CTC disclaims any responsibility for
any losses or expenses incurred due to cancellation or alteration of the tour resulting
from, but not limited to: travel advisories or warnings issued by the State Department
or any other relevant authority, acts of war, terrorism, acts of God, natural disasters, or
any other circumstance beyond CTC’s control. In such case, CTC will assist Travelers
in requesting refunds for all services prepaid but not rendered, less a non-refundable
$300 per person administrative fee; CTC shall not be responsible for any non-recover-
able amounts disbursed to service providers on a Traveler’s behalf.
POLICY AGAINST DISCRIMINATION: CTC does not discriminate on the basis of race,
religion, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical
condition, marital status, sex, age, sexual orientation, or status as a Vietnam or other
