1. General Astrological Articles for Tuesday 17
Square Deal Tuesday, 17 July 2012
A series of seven ‘squares’ between Uranus and Pluto came to its first peak last month. There
will be six more between now and 2015. So I suppose that gives me 30 months or so to slowly
explain what they represent! This week, I intend to tackle the meaning of a ‘square’. Like any
special angle formed in the zodiac, it signifies the way in which two particular planets are
interacting with each other. Harmonious angles (trines, sextiles and usually conjunctions) imply
agreement between these difference forces. Challenging angles (largely squares and
oppositions) imply provocation and intervention.
Yesterday Tomorrow
Tuesday, July 17
There is more going on than meets the eye as intense emotions rise to the surface. We may try
to put a positive spin on everything now that energetic Mars harmoniously trines buoyant
Jupiter. However, a controlling Mars-Pluto square indicates that a power struggle might be
unavoidable. Meanwhile, the moody Cancer Moon tempts us to suppress our emotions as she
makes a series of harsh alignments. Expressing hidden anger is healthier than hiding it.
Cardinal grand cross, Cancer New Moon: Time to molt
Posted on July 17, 2012 by Amanda Painter
The Moon, which entered Cancer a few hours before midnight EDT, completes a cardinal grand
cross on its way to the Cancer New Moon later this week. A grand cross is when there are
planets at four intervals of 90 degrees in the solar system. Today, that would be Uranus in
Aries, the Moon in Cancer, Mars in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn — three powerhouses and one
very sensitive personal point, the Moon.
Filling out today’s grand cross are Moon in Cancer, Mars in Libra (red circle with an arrow),
Uranus in Aries (blue “H”) and Pluto in Capricorn (red golf tee). Also shown is the Sun in late
Cancer; the Moon joins it Thursday.
Looked at one way, this astrology looks like a crab molting its shell. You might feel varying
degrees of anticipation/pressure/frustration, something associated with the Cancer Moon
picking up so many planets so different from itself; you might experience a sense of relief,
vulnerability and a sense of newness — even confidence — as the week progresses.
The Moon makes contact with the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square regularly, about every week or
so, each time it enters one of the four cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn). At
11:34 am EDT today it squares Mars in Libra and nearly simultaneously, opposes Pluto in
Capricorn exactly, and is square to Uranus in Aries. This is an unusual setup; it may turn out to
be historic. The Moon focuses the energy emotionally, so we’re really getting the feeling of
what it’s like to be alive in our era, with all of its complexity.
In general, Mars aspects often come with a sense of initiative, drive, feeling antsy (including
physical restlessness), sexual energy or anger — any one or several of those feelings at once.

2. When you put Mars in a square or opposition to Uranus, Pluto or the Moon, the tension can
erupt suddenly with force. That might sound unsettling – frightening, even. Remember,
however, that the Moon is in Cancer, its home sign for this grand cross. On the one hand, this
indicates we will all be feeling the pressure and get-up-and-go of Mars in this situation palpably.
On the other hand, Cancer also tends to be a nurturing, home-oriented sign.
The Moon’s influence in this grand cross could be the extra sensitivity to your emotional
undercurrents needed to remember empathy and compassion toward yourself and others. With
some extra awareness of the forces and themes at work this week, you have an opportunity to
direct your energy and actions creatively.
Lets go back to that image of a molting crab, both personally and collectively. The Cancer Moon
in the revolutionary-evolutionary Uranus-Pluto square, with an added push from Mars, equals
splitting the carapace. It takes pressure to split the old, hard shell and break through. As scary
as that can be, it’s a true release from something that has been outgrown. When the new shell
is revealed, it’s still soft. It takes some time to firm up and become as protective as the old one,
and for us to trust it.
Astrology Today: Oracle for Tuesday, July 17, 2012

You seem to be getting a little bit of leverage, but remember the point is to let the lever do the
work. Even if you alienate your friends by pushing your agenda, they’ll soon enough find their
way back into your life as long as you remind them they’re welcome. But why go through all of
this when you can play a good clean game?
There is plenty of movement early in the week under a talkative Gemini moon, then impatient
Mars pushes “you can do more” Jupiter on Tuesday. This sounds well and good, but Tuesday
afternoon will have you wondering what you have gotten yourself into.
The New Moon is on Wednesday, July 18. ( 9:24 PM PDT , 27 degrees Cancer). The sacred
Sabian Symbol for this new moon matches a difficult planetary alignment. Meditate on this
symbol for personal meaning, ” A violent storm in a canyon filled with expensive homes.” To
me, this symbol has to do with looking at your life in terms of how your worldly expression is in
alignment (or not) with the natural order of the universe. It reminds me that nature is the boss so
I had better pay attention. Specifically for this new moon period, A Cancer new moon wants to
be with family, to feel emotionally supported, and to be comforted. However, there is a
rattle-your-cage combination of Uranus (earthquakes, revolutions, inventions), Pluto (power
struggles, transformation) and Mars (impatient, aggressive). They act impulsively and
dramatically in sharp contrast to a nurturing Cancer moon. There are also some fire & wind
energies coming in the weeks ahead, adding to existing challenges. Obviously, some bad things
are likely to happen in the world. The positive side is that something needs to change, and this
pushy energy will help you see it clearly and require you to deal with it. It reminds me of the
classic book “Candide” by Voltaire : good comes out of something bad, and bad comes out of
something good; such is the path in life! Find your own way to feel safe and secure in spite of
external world changes. Understand that the world is shifting and that good things will be birthed
