This foreword discusses the importance and benefits of apprenticeships. It notes that apprenticeships have long provided career opportunities for young people and adults in key industries with skills gaps, such as healthcare, construction, and engineering. Since 2017, Pearson has utilized apprenticeship levy funds to support over 200 of their own employees in taking apprenticeship courses at advanced, higher, or degree levels. The foreword also acknowledges that there is underrepresentation of BAME apprentices across sectors, and that the awards aim to highlight exceptional BAME talent and employers committed to inclusion. It thanks the judges for their work and congratulates all the winners and nominees.
The Asian Apprenticeship Awards was launched in March 2016 to celebrate the talent and diversity of under-represented British Asian Apprentices, their Employers and Training Providers. Apprenticeships have been seen as a secondary route for British Asians with the perception that University is the primary way for leading a successful career. This correlates with the current representation of British Asian apprentices with the starts of 2016/2017 - that being 4.1%. The 2017 awards brought together cross industry and sector leaders from across the country supporting not just the event, but the cause behind it. With over 60% of our audience at C-level or Managerial level, there was a high level of influence in the room - a significant increase from 2016.Our awards fits into a larger discussion around Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) representation within the labour market. There has been a demand for diverse workforces, not just for the local and national demographic representation, but for the economic benefits. For the economy to thrive, diversity is key. Full representation of BAME individuals within workforces across the UK would be worth £24bn per year to the economy.Employers and Training Providers are recognising this and are bringing out initiatives to boost diverse representation.

Multicultural-Apprenticeship-Awards-2022-Brochure.pdfThe Pathway Group
The document summarizes the program for the 2022 Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards ceremony. It will include award presentations in various categories, as well as keynote speeches. The event is being held to celebrate diversity in apprenticeships and honor outstanding apprentices, employers, and learning providers. It is hosted by Pearson and the Multicultural Apprenticeship Alliance, and will feature entertainment from hosts Harpz Kaur and Aurie Styla, as well as a speech from apprentice advocate Haider Ali.
The document discusses the challenges facing higher education institutions in South Africa, including funding constraints, demands for free education, and producing high-quality graduates. It notes that funding is a complex issue, as the government has limited resources to allocate, and universities rely on tuition fees for a significant portion of their budgets. While the funding gap may not be resolved soon, universities can help by assessing costs, collaborating with other institutions, and improving their role as the "production plant" of skilled human capital. The future sustainability of universities will depend on factors like financial stability, employable graduates, diversity, research excellence, and social responsiveness.

Text mining names in ‘Big Data’ to recognize migration trendsElian CARSENAT
This document summarizes a presentation about using name recognition software to analyze "big data" and recognize trends in Turkish migration. The software is able to accurately classify names by linguistic characteristics and likely origin. It has been tested on datasets of Olympic athletes and inventors with over 80% accuracy. The software can be used to map diasporas on social media, analyze gender breakdowns and nationalities, and help investment agencies identify potential business contacts overseas with family or cultural ties to their country. While name alone does not determine nationality or residence, the software provides a useful statistical tool for exploring demographic trends and directions for further research.
