The Indian Merchants Chamber in New Mumbai held a disaster preparedness education workshop on March 15, 2012 where members learned skills to cope with disasters from the Saritsa Foundation. Colonel N.M. Verma and Professor Smita Kadam of the Saritsa Foundation taught both women and elder members of the chamber how to make floaters and use lifejackets during floods using everyday household items. Demonstrations covered proper tying techniques and uses for floatation devices.
