In this video I (Tavleen Mehendiratta) look at things that are really going to make cities and cars smarter. I also look Internet of Things and how that is penetrating into our cities. Imagine 50 billion devices are waiting to get to the internet.
As our governments look at making smart cities, I look at what they may really mean to us.
Currently our cities are congested with traffic, so what can prevent cities from having a colossal heart attack? I explore how technologies will embed themselves not just in cars but also in infrastructure. Cars will be rolling data centres, generating huge amount of data on pretty much everything!
Cars of future would be equipped to negotiate their ways out of jams. But when cities and cars get smart would people get dumb?
We look at psychologist, Don Norman and sociologist, Saskia Sassen's view point as well.

Actual governance for Public Infrastructures Operations Management lets very little room for innovation, due to very strict requirements specifications, and long term contracts. This is not compatible with short cycles in Digital Innovation. And it prevents from taking into account customer feedback at appropriate pace.
That lets plenty of space for startups that can occupy the room in the value chain, in between individual, not organized, customers, and centralized operators who have little motivation to take into account their feedback.
This is Disruption by the book, not only of the operator, but possibly of the Public authority itself. One possibility to overcome this problem is to create alternatives by capitalizing on, and catalyzing Ecosystems.

Not only do we overestimate how easy it is to replace humans, replacing them is often neither desirable nor the best use of AI. A better way to think about the future of AI is interlacing its strengths with those of humans.
Autonomous vehicles are often posed as reducing human interaction with vehicles to a minimum. While they will take more of the cognitive load of driving off humans, in many cases it is more useful to think of a human-machine collaboration.
This talk will look at the UX process behind a mobile app developed for Blackburn with Darwen Council that enables cyclists to view cycling routes. The main UX challenge with this app has been to apply subtle changes between web and mobile platforms that deliver the best user experience on mobile apps even when there is no internet connectivity or when the connectivity is unreliable at the user end.
Delivery robots – just a few years ago, the stuff of pure science fiction – are now very much a reality and quickly becoming a part of everyday life for many of us. In fact, I will usually come across five or six when I go for an evening jog in my hometown of Milton Keynes, England!

How to Build Your Own Ridesharing App (droidcon NYC 2018)HERE Technologies
When was the last time you were truly lost? Thanks to the maps and location technology in our smartphones, a whole generation has now grown up in a world where getting lost is truly a thing of the past.
Location technology goes far beyond maps in the palm of our hand, however. Today it is at the heart of a broad range of applications, from logistics to games, from social networks to ridesharing.
In this talk, we will explore how a ridesharing app works. We will ask questions such as: How do we find out where the passenger is located? How do we discover our destination? How do we find the closest driver? How do we provide a correct ETA to the passenger in heavy traffic? How do we display this information on a map? How do we find the best route to the destination?
To answer these questions, we will be learning about a variety of location APIs, including Maps, Positioning, Geocoding, Routing, Traffic, Places, and much more.
At the end you should be able to build your own ridesharing app or any clever app for which location matters.
HERE Intermodal Routing API (GeoMonday Berlin 2018)HERE Technologies
HERE Intermodal Routing API is a REST API that allows you to plan a trip using different modes of transportation in the same journey to deliver optimized routes. It currently supports Park and Ride use cases that include driving via car, parking at a dedicated parking lot, and continuing to your final destination via public transit.
Introduction to Map and Location APIs (Silicon Valley Code Camp 2017)HERE Technologies
We've all gotten lost at some point in our lives. Finding out where we are, where we want to go, and how to get there is hard enough for people, but it’s even harder for our applications and devices.
Fortunately, map and location APIs are here to help. From latitudes to longitudes, from geocoding to routing, in this session you'll learn to go beyond maps and help your apps and devices find their way using location technology.

During the webinar, you will discover the PowSyBl ecosystem as well as handle and study an electrical network through an interactive Python notebook.
PowSyBl is an open source project hosted by LF Energy, which offers a comprehensive set of features for electrical grid modelling and simulation. Among other advanced features, PowSyBl provides:
- A fully editable and extendable library for grid component modelling;
- Visualization tools to display your network;
- Grid simulation tools, such as power flows, security analyses (with or without remedial actions) and sensitivity analyses;
The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
What you will learn during the webinar:
- For beginners: discover PowSyBl's functionalities through a quick general presentation and the notebook, without needing any expert coding skills;
- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
