S. Channel Islands, incl. San Guadalupe Isl., Baja CA; uncommon on rocky, grassy
slopes, coastal canyons in grasslands or coastal sage scrub. RARE.
Native to:

Rare endemic (found in only a few places) Gilia with upright stems and hairy leaves. Dainty-looking
plant with almost fern-like leaves.
Growth characteristics:
Blooms in spring, depending on the rains.

Flowers are small, lavender-colored
Uses in the garden: Grow this plant where you can enjoy the small blooms up close. Good for
edging walks, pots, rock gardens. Pretty massed. Mix with other native wildflowers and grasses in
a native meadows.
Makes a nice cut flower. Pair with yellow, white or pink-flowered annuals for a
lovely, old-fashioned cottage garden.
Sensible substitute for: Non-native phlox and blue-flowered spring annuals.
Attracts: Good bird & pollinator habitat: provides seeds and nectar.
