Debt can cause health problems and a
ripple effect of bad habits. Presenting
infographics to young adults was a more
relatable way to bring awareness to the
risks of debt and the steps to get out of
debt once it’s accumulated.
This study on debt was to find a way to present information without losing the attention of
young adults. Too much information can become overwhelming and often ignored. This
guide will walk through our test plan on how much college students know about debt, our
methods on surveying about debt and our results.

A Usability Test Plan was prepared to list what the study is about, who’s the target audience,
scenarios and how the study will be conducted.
This test plan also helps with questioning the objectives of the study and gain understanding
from the participants.
Gaining feedback from the test plan will help the study to either continue on or do more research.

PRODUCT UNDER TEST
We are testing our SlideDoc and
infographics for the
effectiveness and usability of our
content.
TEST OBJECTIVES
What are the goals of the
usability test? What specific
questions will be answered?
What hypotheses will be tested?
The goal of the test is to find if
the product is relatable and
effective. We will have 4
demographic questions, 9
questions concerning the
SlideDoc, and a space for any
additional feedback.
PARTICIPANTS
We are recruiting roughly five
participants with an age not to
exceed 23.
TEST SCENARIO AND TASKS
What is the Scenario(s)?
You’ve just graduated college
and ready to take on the
responsibilities of the real world.
However, you’re finding it hard
to rent an apartment or sign a
new lease for a car. You’re
starting to become
overwhelmed with credit card
bills and student loans. You’re
now trying to figure out how to
handle your bills before stressing
out.
What are the test tasks?
You gather all your bills and look
at your budget
You pull out the infographic
hands given about preventing
debt and the 7 Baby steps to get
out of debt
By following the instructions of
each infographic you understand
the importance of staying calm
LOCATION & DATES
Wednesday April 19th , 2017 in
the free speech area/ in front of
library at Texas Tech University.
With a survey we will conduct
including feedback for those
willing to participate for our
research.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Evan: Conduct survey with each
participant for feedback
Melissa: Conduct survey with
each participant for feedback &
notetaking
Russell: Conduct survey with
each participant for feedback
Thomas: Conduct survey with

We are running this test to see if
our information is relatable and
useable. We can improve our
overall product, if not we run the
risk of having a failed product.
EQUIPMENT
We will record the data through
the questionnaire that we will
provide for our participant.
Procedures
1. Go to the library and find five students to participate in the test.
2. Have the students sign the questionnaire obtaining their consent to share.
3. Have the students complete the pre questions.
4. Have the students go through our SlideDoc.
5. Have the students finish the questionnaire.
6. Tell them thank you for your time.

Pre & Post Survey
SlideDoc presentation on debt
Prevent & Get Out of Debt Infographics
Based off the Guerilla Testing, two tests were
conducted at Texas Tech University.
One survey conducted at the Media and
Communication building and the other was conducted
out side of the library.
Each participant that volunteered to partake in the
survey fell within the target audience demographic
ages of 18-24.
Observation:
Each read information carefully and recorded their
knowledge of debt without hesitation.
Each subject showed a surprised response at reading
the percentage of young adults that are in debt.

relatable.

overwhelming

financially literate.

scholarships.
 40% -Took out student loans.
 40% -Feel the distress of debt
after college.

subject of debt itself is what
they find to be overwhelming.

Next Steps
Our next steps include giving the infographics out to students. If students have something small
enough for them to carry wherever they go, they are more likely to use it instead of throwing it
away. Our main goal was to make the infographics easy to read and relatable. This information is
effective and can be used by university financial aid offices. We will pursue passing this
information on debt to college students.

Conclusion
Our usability testing made it very clear that
getting information out effectively was
important. Many of our testers felt the need
for more information about debt that was
easy to read and easy to find. As well as,
information that laid out simply what you
could do to minimize debt or completely
avoid it all together. Again, this information
could easily be put onto posters, flyers and
online in the form of the SlideDoc making
it easy for anyone to find.

PARTICIPANTS We are recruiting roughly five participants with an age not to exceed 23. TEST SCENARIO AND TASKS What is the Scenario(s)? You’ve just graduated college and ready to take on the responsibilities of the real world. However, you’re finding it hard to rent an apartment or sign a new lease for a car. You’re starting to become overwhelmed with credit card bills and student loans. You’re now trying to figure out how to handle your bills before stressing out. What are the test tasks? You gather all your bills and look at your budget You pull out the infographic hands given about preventing debt and the 7 Baby steps to get out of debt By following the instructions of each infographic you understand the importance of staying calm LOCATION & DATES Wednesday April 19th , 2017 in the free speech area/ in front of library at Texas Tech University. With a survey we will conduct including feedback for those willing to participate for our research. RESPONSIBILITIES Evan: Conduct survey with each participant for feedback Melissa: Conduct survey with each participant for feedback & notetaking Russell: Conduct survey with each participant for feedback Thomas: Conduct survey with each participant for feedbackBUSINESS CASE We are running this test to see if our information is relatable and useable. We can improve our overall product, if not we run the risk of having a failed product. EQUIPMENT We will record the data through the questionnaire that we will provide for our participant. Procedures 1. Go to the library and find five students to participate in the test. 2. Have the students sign the questionnaire obtaining their consent to share. 3. Have the students complete the pre questions. 4. Have the students go through our SlideDoc. 5. Have the students finish the questionnaire. 6. Tell them thank you for your time.
  • 5. 5| Methods Pre & Post Survey SlideDoc presentation on debt Prevent & Get Out of Debt Infographics Based off the Guerilla Testing, two tests were conducted at Texas Tech University. One survey conducted at the Media and Communication building and the other was conducted out side of the library. Each participant that volunteered to partake in the survey fell within the target audience demographic ages of 18-24. Observation: Each read information carefully and recorded their knowledge of debt without hesitation. Each subject showed a surprised response at reading the percentage of young adults that are in debt.

  • 8. 8| Next Steps Our next steps include giving the infographics out to students. If students have something small enough for them to carry wherever they go, they are more likely to use it instead of throwing it away. Our main goal was to make the infographics easy to read and relatable. This information is effective and can be used by university financial aid offices.   • 9. 9| Conclusion Our usability testing made it very clear that getting information out effectively was important. Many of our testers felt the need for more information about debt that was easy to read and easy to find. As well as, information that laid out simply what you could do to minimize debt or completely avoid it all together. Again, this information could easily be put onto posters, flyers and online in the form of the SlideDoc making it easy for anyone to find.
