- Helena Egan joined TripAdvisor in December 2008 as the first dedicated tourist board specialist in Europe, covering Europe, Middle-East, Africa and Asia, after the successful launch of TripAdvisor's U.S. tourist board program. In 2011 Helena has grown the Destination Marketing Team to four full time employees with Helena managing the team as Head of Destination Marketing, EMEAA. The team’s key responsibilities include working with and developing relationships across tourist boards based across Europe, Middle-East, Africa and Asia. This involves designing and creating bespoke marketing opportunities on TripAdvisor’s media group web sites and advising tourist boards on how they can become part of the Web 2.0 travel experience. Helena brings over 13 years of experience in the travel and tourism industry. She joined TripAdvisor from Travel Weekly, U.S. and has also worked for Visit Britain and numerous cruise lines. For the past 11 years she has lived in London, and prior to that, in six countries across Europe and in the U.S. She holds a MA from the University of Helsinki.
- Professor DimitriosBuhalis is a Strategic Management and Marketing expert with specialisation in Technology and Tourism and the elected President of International Federation for Information Technologies in Travel and Tourism (IFITT)He is Established Chair in Tourism and Deputy Director of the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research (ICTHR) and Director of the John Kent Institute in Tourism at the School of Tourism Bournemouth University and Professorial Observer at the Bournemouth University Senate. Professor Buhalis is leading eTourism research and is working with the Bournemouth team for introducing technology in all aspects of tourism research and teaching. He is a representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation and a member of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism.Dr DimitriosBuhalis was previously Programme Leader MSc in Tourism Marketing, Leader of eTourism Research, Reader in Business Information Management at the School of Management, University of Surrey. Dimitrios has also been Adjunct Professor at the MBA in Hospitality Management at the IMHI (Cornell University-EcoleSuperieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales ESSEC) in Paris, Visiting Professor at School of Hotel and Tourism Management at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China and Professor Associado at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He has been teaching tourism related subjects in more than 30 Universities around the world. He is regarded as an expert in the impacts of ICTs in the tourism industry and eTourism, the management of tourism distribution channels as well as strategic tourism marketing and management.Dimitrios has been involved with a number of European Commission projects and regularly advises the World Tourism Organisation, the World Tourism and Travel Council and the European Commission in the field of information technology and tourism. His latest assignment with Government and Public Sector organisations was to develop an eTourism Strategy for the Egyptian Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism in Egypt whilst he recently completed a project on the development of Hotel School for the Government of Andorra.
- Mariette Du Toit-Helmbold has been CEO of Cape Town Tourism for six years.Before being appointed CEO of Cape Town Tourism, Du Toit-Helmbold worked in various leading positions, including tourism product and route development; the establishment of her own business, Travel Lounge; and conceptualising, developing and managing the first Gateway Tourism Centre for South Africa in the V&A Waterfront.In November 2004, she was appointed CEO of Cape Town Tourism, after transforming the then fragmented tourism industry in Cape Town, with the establishment of a unified tourism body for the Greater Cape Town Metropole – Cape Town Tourism. Under her leadership, Cape Town Tourism’s Visitor Strategy has been recognised by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation as one of the world’s best, and Cape Town Tourism is now the Official Destination Marketing and Visitors Services Agency for the City of Cape Town. Mariette is a member of, among others, the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) International Women in Tourism Task Team; the UNWTO Destination Council and the UNWTO Business Council. In response to tourism’s massive shift to online platforms, she spearheaded the first eMarketing Strategy for Cape Town, leading to Cape Town Tourism being recognised as a tourism eMarketing trend-setter in South Africa.Du Toit-Helmbold does not see Tourism as a career or just a job, but as a way of life: “It thrills me, motivates me and enthuses me”.
