John wakes up encased in a cardboard box in a robotics lab, where scientists tell him he has been chosen to be the future of law enforcement. Still in the cardboard box, John unsteadily makes his way to enforce the law. When police are ambushed responding to a crime, the scientists send John, still in his cardboard box costume, to help. Gunshots are heard, then the empty cardboard box is thrown out, with the scientists sneaking off, suggesting John was successful in his mission.

1. FUTURE COP
INT. HIGH TEC ROBOTICS LAB – DAY
Waking up from a long period of unconsciousness, JOHN
sees the faces of a MALE and FEMALE SCIENTIST peering at
him and hears them speaking.
FEMALE SCIENTIST
Techtronics functional.
MALE SCIENTIST
Biomechanical systems working
perfectly.
FEMALE SCIENTIST
Ok. Time to wake up, John.
MALE SCIENTIST
Yes, wake up.
The MALE SCIENTIST removes a plastic sheet so that John
can see more clearly.
MALE SCIENTIST
You’re the future of law
enforcement.
JOHN is sitting down, wearing a plastic policeman’s
helmet, his whole body encased in cardboard boxes,
decorated with bits of tin foil, plastic spoons, etc.
JOHN
Ooh, what? What’s going on?
MALE SCIENTIST
You’ve been chosen, John. You
are the future of law
enforcement.
JOHN
You’ve . . . put me in a
cardboard box?
FEMALE SCIENTIST
Yes. It’s fantastic, isn’t it.
JOHN
Why? Why’ve you put me in a
cardboard box?

2. MALE SCIENTIST
Don’t get upset, John. You’ll
build up your electric
neurotransmitters.
FEMALE SCIENTIST
Yes.
JOHN
Well, what am I supposed to do?
MALE SCIENTIST
Get out there. Get out there
and enforce the law – Future
Cop!
John stands up slowly and makes his way unsteadily across
the lab to the door, as the two scientists watch him
admiringly.
FEMALE SCIENTIST
Nice work, Dan.
MALE SCIENTIST
Yes. Brilliant.
They shake hands as John walks out the door.
EXT. BACKSTREET – NIGHT.
Sirens wail as a squadron of police arrive at an old
warehouse. They run inside the building.
INT. WAREHOUSE – NIGHT.
As the police mount a wooden staircase, they are fired on
from above by a gang of armed men. The police retreat.
EXT. BACKSTREET – NIGHT.
A POLICEMAN is calling on his radio to the head office.
POLICEMAN
We need back up!
INT. WAREHOUSE – NIGHT.
The GANG LEADER comes down the stairs and looks out of
the door.

3. EXT. BACKSTREET – NIGHT.
He fires on the policeman who is hit.
EXT. BACKSTREET, AWAY FROM THE ACTION – NIGHT.
Another police car draws up. The CHIEF of Police jumps
out and finds the two scientists waiting.
CHIEF
Is your man ready?
FEMALE SCIENTIST
He’s ready.
MALE SCIENTIST
Just you watch, chief. Just
you watch.
The male scientist goes up to a police van where John is
getting out, still encased in cardboard boxes. He turns
John around and sends him running into the warehouse.
CHIEF
I hope he’s good.
John enters the building. A few seconds pass. Then a
volley of shots is heard. Silence. And then the
cardboard boxes are thrown out of the door.
The two scientists give each other a look and sneak off
sheepishly.
