Furuncle ( localized acute ootitis externa)

• Staphylococcus infection of hair follicles.
• Cartilagenous part only in meatus.
• Single or multiple.
• Severe pain and tenderness.
• Painful pinna movements.
• Jaw movements cause pain in the ear.
• Edema over mastoid
• Enlarged and tender periauricular lymph nodes
Treatment
• Systemic antibiotics
• Analgesics
• Local heat
• 10% icthammol glycerine ( splintage and reduce pain)
• Glycerine (reduce edema)
• Icthammol (antiseptic)
• Incision and drainage (if abscess is formed)
Recurrent furunculosis
• Nasal vestibule is harbour of staphylococcus
• Infections transfer by patient fingers
