The Neamt Fortress in Romania was originally built in 1374-1391 by Petru I Musatinul with square walls that were 12m high. Stephen the Great enlarged it between 1457-1501, adding four circular towers, raising the walls to 20m, adding a defensive ditch, and making it virtually invincible. In 1476, it successfully defended against an army of 200,000 sent by Mehmed II. Between 2007-2009 it underwent restoration, repairing damage and allowing visitors to view its throne room, secret room, weapons room, chapel, and other original features.
Polizu Manor was built in 1878 by the Ghica princely family in a neoclassical architectural style. Until 1946 the manor represented the summer residence for the family and its following heirs.
However, in 1946 it succumbed under the atrociousness of the communist regime.
