Other Games
-Sharks and minnows (Osprey and fish, Bobcat and squirrels, etc.)- set up the playing
field, and make one person the shark. Everyone else is a minnow. When the game starts, the
minnows try to run from one end of the field to the other side. The shark tags as many
minnows as they can, and the tagged minnows become sharks for the next round. The game
continues until everyone is a shark and there are no minnows left.
-Target practice- draw chalk targets on the ground, use water balloons to try to erase
them. Set up pinecones, cups, and other small objects to be hit with squirt guns.
-Freeze tag
-Charades- Make a topic (animals of the forest, workers in the park, etc.)
-Red light, green light
2. Chalk games
-Giant board game- draw a giant board game course on the ground, adding in “Action
spaces” every few spaces. (Some examples of action spaces could be “hoot like an howl” or
“move a space backwards”) players take turns rolling the dice and moving around the board,
following the instructions on the action spaces. Whoever makes it to the finish space first wins
a prize.
-Art switch- Draw a rectangle on the ground for each player. Pick a central topic (your
park experience, camping in the campground, beach scene etc.) Have them draw in the
rectangle for 3 or so minutes. At the end of time have them switch to a new rectangle and draw
for another 3 or so minutes. Continue until everyone has drawn in different rectangles.
-Colors- draw circles of different colors on the ground and have players find items in
nature that match the colors and put them in the circles.
-Monster Camouflage- Draw brightly colored “monsters” on the ground, have players
find things in nature around them to help the monster blend in with its surroundings
-Hopscotch
-Tic tac toe
-Four Square
