The French & Indian War was a military conflict between Great Britain and France over control of North America from 1754 to 1763. The war began when Britain demanded the French withdraw from territories claimed by Britain and create British forts there. If the French refused, Britain would force them to evacuate using military force if necessary. The conflict escalated into a global war as both nations fought for dominance and control of territories in North America and overseas.
