House of Representatives is an integral part of foreign
policy making in Indonesia
It is imperative that HR and MOFA to develop closer
working relationship
3. Objective
A closer look on how House of Representatives views
current Indonesia’s foreign policy issues
Obtaining proposed possible policy recommendations to
further enhance relations between the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and House of Representatives
4. Good Relations
Despite the fact that there is an increased activism of
House of Representatives in foreign policy is a
characteristic of a democratized legislature
Continued support of Indonesia’s positions in various
foreign policy issues.
Agreement with the foreign policy priorities identified
by the Foreign Minister:
Integrity and soverignty
Protection of Indonesian citizens
Economic independence
Active role in the region and the world
5. House of Representatives’s view on
Current Foreign Policy Issues
Attention to issues considered priorities by HR:
Need to enhance Indonesia’s role in bilateral, regional
and multilateral forum
Indonesia has to get more benefit in any regional
economy cooperation
Indonesia has to continue protecting its nationals
abroad
In addressing budget constraint issue, Indonesia should
be creative in prioritizing its activities
6. 2. Policy Recommendations
1. Maintaining good relationship between DPR and MOFA,
while trying to involve DPR at planning stage of a
foreign policy initiative.
2. Strengthen communication channels between DPR and
MOFA to anticipate crisis and foreign policy emergency
situations.
