1. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
TIE, BEACON (2-0) & ARLINGTON (1-1) –
Impressive road wins for both. Bulldogs went
down to Pearl River and won their league opener
to go to 2-0 overall. Admirals won a HUGE game
and avoided going 0-2 in league with win at
Suffern.
2. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
NEWBURGH (1-1)– Goldbacks coach Bill Bianco purposely set
up a couple of tough non-league openers. NFA lost to Iona
Prep last week but came back Saturday night with a 34-33 OT
win over Holy Cross. Big effort from Aaron Forbes with 214
yards rushing.
3. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
MARLBORO (1-1) – They said they wouldn’t start the season
at 0-2 and they didn’t. Marlboro avoided that with a solid 35-
10 road win at New Paltz on Friday night. Defense looked
good, offense still has some kinks to work out but is rounding
into shape. Huge one vs. Cornwall this week.
4. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
WALLKILL (1-1) – Boy it’s tough to penalize the Panthers
for losing a one-point overtime game against a Class A
team when they went for two. There’s still a big ceiling for
this team and if FDR proved anything, it’s that
Poughkeepsie is susceptible to big plays – which Wallkill
loves.
5. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
HIGHLAND (2-0) – Well, we know how good Highland’s
offense can be, with 71 points in two games. But was the
shutout of Saugerties, a struggling program, a fluke? We’ll
find out this weekend when the Huskies play another team
that’s scored 70+ in two games with a league game vs. Red
Hook.
6. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
RONDOUT (2-0) – The team with the biggest chip on its
shoulder because it is desperate to prove last year was
no fluke after years of mediocre football. So far, so good.
Offense was sharp in the win over Monticello, and the
defense held a team that scored 39 last week to just 13.
7. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
LOURDES (2-0) – Real nice win for the Warriors on
Saturday afternoon against a physical Rye Country Day
school. OLL made big play after big play, especially in the
second half, and the coaching staff deserves credit for
keeping them focused on the task at hand and not this
week’s big league showdown with Pleasantville.
8. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
ROOSEVELT (2-0) – We said in our preview of the
Poughkeepsie game we had no doubt FDR’s offense
would be unleashed. But we thought shootout. Who knew
the Presidents’ defense would be so good, holding the
Pioneers to just six points? Beating Kingston and Potown
in the first two is as good as it gets, folks.
9. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
MILLBROOK (2-0) – Still the best running team in the
area with the best scheme and the personnel to run it.
Delvin Wood scored four touchdowns and led the
Blazers’ backs to 509 yards rushing in a 65-20 rout of
Spackenkill on Friday night
10. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
POWER RANKINGS
SEPT. 14, 2014
JOHN JAY (2-0) – Hell of a game. Jay jumped out to 21-0
lead on Mahopac, fell behind 28-27 in the fourth, then used
Ryan Schumacher’s fourth touchdown pass to beat back
the Indians, 35-28. Patriots have a huge game against
powerhouse New Rochelle this weekend.
