This document outlines the contents and objectives of a financial modeling course. Session : 2 - Excel Proficiency
• This module is divided into multiple chapters.
• Each of the chapters incorporated in the module will enhance the excel
skills of the candidate.
• Use of functions like filter and sort and ‘what if analysis’ (Data Tables and
Scenarios) are covered in this module.
• Charts and graphs are an inevitable part of financial modeling which is
covered in this module.

Session : 3 - Building a Basic Model
• This is the first module of the course.
• It is intended to provide a glimpse of what a financial
modeling exercise could be.
• This exercise will also give an insight into knowledge base
required for financial modeling.
• Basics of excel i.e. formatting and formulae building are
covered in this module.

• The previous session were focused to strengthen the financial
knowledge base of the candidate.
• This module gives a ground to use the knowledge garnered
from previous sessions into financial modeling.
• The objective of this module is to build a project analysis
model.

Session : 5 - Building a Project Finance Model
• The modeling exercise has been divided into 6 sub-models.
• Every subsequent sub-model is linked to preceding sub-model.
Hence, it is imperative to complete the exercise in
chronological order.
• Subsequent sub-models would also act as solution for the
preceding sub-model.
Note:
It is not a test with some marks. So, let’s enjoy the task and complete it in the
above mentioned way rather than peeping into the last part and being a spoil
sport.

• In this module, a candidate has to prepare a equity research
model on a company to get its target price.
• The target company for the model is ‘KPIT Cummins’.
• The exercise has been divided into several parts.
• Each subsequent part is linked to preceding part.
• Hence it is desired that a candidate should complete the parts
in chronological order.

Session : 7 - Understanding Valuation and Building it in the Equity
Research Model
• This module explains the basic valuation theory and methods of
valuation used in the industry
• The valuation techniques are useful for various purposes like:
– Equity research
– Merger and Acquisition
– Leveraged Buyout transactions
• The second section of this module applies these valuation techniques o
the equity research case we have developed in the previous session.
• The final output of the exercise would be a intrinsic value of the company
