Flexible Solids are an exploration of geometric shapes, size,
position and manipulation in the creation of a wearable garment.
This collection’s primary inspiration derives from my “reproductive system”
installation, which relates to the basic nature of being. The essential fact
of our existence brings us back to the fertilization process, where the
cells fuse together to initiate the development of a new individual organism.
My secondary inspiration comes from minimal paper sculptures by
Bianca Chang, informed very basic shapes such as triangles, rectangles and
ovals, which became my design language. Her use of geometrical shapes and
lines guided me to the word “Geometry”, which defines as study of math
to analyze and solve problems and relationship of space, shape and size. ”.
I created my own “flexible solid” patterns by using geometric shapes which
becomes my “solids”, because these shapes are enclosed by certain number of
points and lines. It becomes “Flexible” by measuring, positioning, sizing
and connecting with the multiple to become wearable garments for human body.
