Fixed series capacitors are used to increase power transmission capacity on electrical grids. They compensate for line inductance to improve stability and power transfer. Fixed series capacitors include maintenance bypass switches, internal and external fusing, damping circuits with metal oxide varistors and spark gaps, and can be monitored and controlled via SCADA systems. They have been installed at various locations in India to enhance power transmission.
