An alien is sent to Earth by the United Nations to learn about gardening from a human, but cannot speak the human's language. The alien likely already has preconceptions about Earth's plant life from television broadcasts that have reached deep into space. Plants have often been portrayed as threatening or dangerous in movies, such as in Little Shop of Horrors, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Day of the Triffids, and Batman & Robin, where Poison Ivy was a villain who could control plants.

5. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes Possibly a favorite among insomniac aliens, filmed in 1978. Alien fans of “Tomatoes” will be glad to know that a remake is in progress for 2009.

6. Day of the Triffids The big screen version was filmed in 1963, with a BBC remake in 1981. Now these were plants!

7. Batman and Robin, 1997 More recently, Uma Thurman played “Poison Ivy” in Batman & Robin.
