FirstEnergy’s 2008 Annual Meeting of Shareholders will be held Tuesday, May 20. Enclosed for
your information and use are your Voting Instruction Form, Notice of Annual Meeting of Shareholders, and
Proxy Statement.
We encourage you to vote your shares of common stock in the Savings Plan on the six business
items being presented at the meeting, including four shareholder proposals. Your Board of Directors
recommends that you vote:
• FOR Item 1, the election of the 11 nominees to the Board of Directors listed in the
Proxy Statement;
• FOR Item 2, the ratification of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as our independent
registered public accounting firm for 2008; and
• AGAINST the four shareholder proposals, which are Items 3 - 6. The reasons for
voting against these proposals are discussed in the Proxy Statement.
