Journal 1 :First Class – Introduction / Shyness test

The atmosphere in the classroom was rather quiet as it was our first ever class. We got
to know more about our lecturer as well as this subject – Social Psychology.
Personally, I was excited and interested in this subject as we got to learn how the
human minds work in a social environment and why and how and what. We ask
ourselves questions like why do we do this or that in a certain way, and this subject
would be able to answer some of those questions. After getting to know more about
this subject, we were told to do a test. If I am able to recall, the test was something to
do with your level of shyness.

I was definitely excited for this subject and was looking forward on more to come.
Personally, this subject is important when dealing with people because we get to
know how the human minds work from their body language or basically how they are.
Journal 2 :Second Class - Self Concept

This was our second class. A music video was shown to us titled “I’m a Bitch.” That
video made me feel good, and happy as the lyrics contradicted honesty within ones
character. It made me realize how we shouldn’t be classified to be a certain type of
person and there is a pallet of emotions we can paint our lives with. We as human
beings are a little bit of everything, as we have different emotions due to certain
feelings or situations. It is hard to be classified to be a certain “type” of person. So
basically, after listening to that song, we were told to write on a piece of paper of five
different “I am’s” and were told to speak about it within a group. We definitely got to
know each other better as we were more vulnerable with ourselves. We learnt that we
tend to see ourselves at centre stage as well. For my “I am’s” I gave personal traits
about myself instead. We also learnt about the “The Power of Positive Thinking.”
And had to do this experiment “The Happy Step-In” we were told to picture someone
that is always happy in our minds and then we had to follow a few imaginative steps
and at the end, try to keep their feelings into our everyday lives. Personally, I couldn’t
really think of a person who is always happy because I found it hard for one to be
happy and positive all the time as I’ve seen people in their lowest and happiest
moment. Therefore, it was hard for me to do this experiment. But overall, this class
made me reflect a lot on my life and myself and my own happiness and who I am as a
person.
Journal 3: Visual

For this class, we were thought how colours bring more meaning than just being
colours. Colours actually do affect the mood and productivity of people. For example,
if you are wearing a whole lot of blue, you portray calmness as blue is somewhat a
soothing colour. As for the colour yellow, you show off cheerful lness and liveliness.
This makes sense because for me, if I am feeling sad or dull, I tend to choose dark and
dull colours. But if I feel like I want to get out of whatever sadness I’m feeling, I’ll
tend to choose bright clothes just to boost my mood. Perceptual Process was taught to
us during this class as well. In simple terms, they are called optical illusion. They
play with our minds and our eyes to make us see things. Sometimes it is hard to wipe
out that image that our eyes see. My brain definitely got played with at some of the
images shown. Basically, we were taught on how our eyes and minds work together.
How a certain colour we see is able to effect how we feel and how the things we see
can mess our minds as well.
One thing that I’ve learnt that really caught my attention was the colour RED. When
women wear the colour red, men are subconsciously drawn or attracted to them. The
colour red also portrays lust, and passion. As the colour brings many meaning as well,
red could bring a signal of danger and signal. We were questioned to why things like
strawberries, and red roses represented love and passion. Now we know why, it’s
because of the colour red!
